Thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening of Phoebe Scott’s exhibition Falling. We are truly honored to welcome Phoebe as our inaugural artist at Subspace Gallery.

Seeing our community gather in support of this first exhibition meant so much to us.

We extend heartfelt thanks to our UTEP ART students and faculty whose energy and dedication helped make this vision possible.

Special gratitude to Juan Juarez, Chair of the Department of Art at UTEP, for supporting the development of our gallery space.

Thank you to DJ Fran Bautista for setting the tone for the evening, to Allan Iniguez for photography and PR support, to our preparators, and to our amazing social media team Vivian Wilson and Roxy Flores.

Thank you also to Derek Caulfield and Victor Muheddine for helping make this dream a reality.

A figurative portrait examining the body as a site of lived experience, Falling invites a focused encounter within the intimate space of Subspace Gallery.

The University of Texas at El Paso Subspace Gallery would like to extend a very special THANK YOU to Derek Caulfield, and Victor Muheddine, for bringing this gallery to life.

Over the summer of 2025, Derek and Victor dedicated countless hours to designing, engineering, and constructing the Subspace Gallery — transforming a simple student locker into a secure, fully functioning micro-gallery. From custom shelving to professional gallery lighting and protective plexiglass, every element was carefully built to transform this locker into a true exhibition space.
Their ingenuity, craftsmanship, and problem-solving made this unique gallery possible, and we are deeply grateful for their expertise and commitment to supporting our students, artists, and creative vision.

Thank you, Derek Caulfield and Victor Muheddine, Department of Art Lead Coordinators, for engineering and building the Subspace structure and helping us turn an idea into reality!

2025 UTEP Faculty Biennial – On view through Dec 11
Derek Caulfield fuses mythology, science fiction, and space exploration in NASA Escort 3: Operation Lure Rahu. The seven-foot-tall sculpture imagines a Cold War-era NASA mission to contact Rahu, the celestial figure linked to eclipses and disruption.

Blending divine iconography with mid-century tech design, Caulfield creates an artifact from a history that never was—where belief and technology collide.

‘The Indomitable Human Spirit’

So…many…organic shapes…

This painting was certainly a learning experience on my end about the importance of not getting hung op on the little details. So many intricate shapes led to an endless repeating cycle of getting carried away in some random corner of the painting. And I certainly feel that it hindered the final product, live and and learn I guess.
