We had a very special evening last night @theperezartdistrict for our 4th Friday October Art Walk…..the Bird Singers from the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians shared their culture with us to open our roving group show “Conversations with the Land”
I was so busy with the crowd that I did not get any pictures of our Cathedral City poet laureate, @therealclarechu Chu reciting her poetry or Navarre, the poem dancer.

Many thanks to head Bird 🦅 Singer, John and his group and guest artist @chouser200 and my fellow @thedesertdozen artists @vaughan_davies and @warnergravesartist who created a very magical art garden in front of our studio for the event. You can see some of Warner‘s paintings in these images.

As the autumn encourages us to slow down, it is an incredible opportunity to take stock, slow down, and get outside so I went with a fellow Desert Dozen artist, @wendy_kahle_artist, day trippin’ to @joshuatreenps and get in some Plein air painting of the amazing rock formations and the brilliant blue sky. What a glorious place we have in our backyard!! Always great to have a multi-sensory painting day🧑‍🎨

I kept returning to mauve while painting In Love with Mauves. The mountain stayed dark and grounded, but the sky moved into violet, lavender, gray, and small flashes of yellow. I was less interested in recording a literal view than in holding onto the feeling of standing before a landscape at the edge of change. #landscapepainter #desertpainter #oilpainting #abstractedlandscapes #thedesertdozen

As I was choosing music for this reel, it dawned on me that may be the name for this new painting that I just finished “Orange Crush”. Weigh in below.

Sometimes I get into a groove and using a particular palette for a small series of paintings. These are wet off the easel and inspired by desert road trips. When I paint nature like this, I definitely get in a place of zen.

Getting more paintings ready for our fun “Conversation with the Land Show” on Friday, October 23 from 4 to 7 at the Perez Art district in Cathedral City #

We will have a special performance by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians Bird 🦅 Singers!
