WOOD AWARDS 2026 | BUILDINGS SHORTLIST 03/04 🌳

From the adaptive reuse of agricultural buildings to innovative structural engineering and extraordinary craftsmanship, the next five projects show timber working at vastly different scales.

Home Farm Evenlode | @charlieluxtondesign
Transforming a pair of agricultural barns into a contemporary workplace, this project uses timber construction, material efficiency and circular thinking to create a flexible, low-impact home for an employee-owned ethical finance company.

Sheep Field Barn | @dsdha_architecture | Entered by @webbyates
Extending the life of an existing agricultural building at Henry Moore Studios & Gardens, Sheep Field Barn creates an elegant and flexible new home for learning, making and exhibition while celebrating its rural character and history.

Winchester College Swimming Pool Roof | @designengineuk | Entered by @arupuk
Defined by an innovative folded timber roof, this swimming pool pavilion uses cross-laminated timber to span 21 metres without internal columns, creating a striking and expressive interior.

Heritage Quad: York Minster Centre of Excellence | @tonkinliu
Designed to sustain the future of heritage craft, this landmark addition to York Minster provides workshops, training and apprentice accommodation beneath an expressive timber roof.

Pebble Ceiling | @matthewburtstudio
Crafted from 5,500 English ash ‘pebbles’, this sculptural ceiling transforms a utilitarian concrete surface into an immersive architectural feature celebrating the beauty and character of native timber.

Less than a week to go! 👀

Discover all 20 shortlisted building projects in the new Wood Awards 2026 magazine, available at the Wood Awards Shortlist Exhibition at UNLOCKED Shoreditch, 15–17 September, during Material Matters.

The shortlisted Furniture & Objects will also be on display throughout the exhibition.

May started with a trip to Dublin to photograph a long term project, then to Guernsey to capture a wonderful new home with ginormous skies! And a very inspiring trip to St Ives in Cambridgeshire ( you will see this one in @simplethingsmag in spring 2027). It ended with a master class in cocktail making designed superbly by an architect friend :-)…
Another month of adventures, bonkers weather and interesting shoots … looking forward now to the summer warmth that June might bright and some interesting assignments on the horizon! Have a fab weekend all xx

Really excited to visit the first @frombehindcloseddoorsfestival this weekend…

Why not have a look yourself…
- Open studios across the city this weekend
- Creative Exhibitions
- Network with local creatives

For me I can’t wait to meet the faces behind so many local creative names that I’ve heard of and seen their work but never met… also seeing the faces I recognise too 🥰

Bring it on! Perfect creative weekend ahead!

From 24 to 26 April, @frombehindcloseddoorsfestival will celebrate the incredible creative industries in Winchester, showcasing the amazing work from the city’s diverse agencies, alongside rare behind-the-scenes access to their studios.

Expect industrial and product design, graphics, marketing, architecture, video production, fashion and creative digital services – all in one city, showcasing the breadth and depth of local talent.

Highlights include:

✨Creative Winchester Exhibition✨
25 and 26 April, 10am-4pm, free admission
Ten of the city’s most respected creative businesses will showcase their work at the WSA West Side Exhibition space adjacent to Winchester Gallery.

✨Open Studios Tour✨
The centrepiece of the weekend. Creatives will open the doors of their studios to the public. Each studio will showcase its working space, giving you the chance to meet the teams and take a behind-the-scenes tour. Studios will host a mini exhibition of their work, approach and favourite projects. It’s a rare opportunity to peek behind the curtain of design studios and is not to be missed.

✨Design Challenge✨
In March, the team at Rodd facilitated a 24-hour Design challenge. This challenge brought together professionals and designers-in-training from WSA to form a single team tackling a design brief within 24hrs. The outcome will be exhibited at the Creative Winchester Exhibition.

From Behind Closed Doors is a celebration of creative partnership across Winchester. Conceptualised by Rodd and Winchester City Council and brought to life with additional support from Winchester School of Art, Winchester BID, the Royal Society of the Arts and Southern Creative Catalyst this event is the first of its kind locally. Studios, agencies and educators have come together to share their work and connect students and the public with the city’s vibrant creative talent.

Full details, including the festival events timetable and studios opening their doors can be found via the link in our bio.
