Feeling honored and proud! Huge thank you to @19ccollins @archdigest for inviting me to share my approach to art collecting and advisory amongst esteemed colleagues and other collectors in-the-know 🖤💫

I had more to say than we had space to share, but I’d like to give some honorable mentions to Jamel Robinson @iamjamelrobinson, another artist in my collection and colleague, for his multimedia practice and works touching on subjects including education and the school-to-prison pipeline, and other personal and interpersonal issues impacting Black communities. And the artists I aspire to collect and have had a chance to get to know: Phyllis Stephens @little_shepard_girl and Stephen Towns @stephentowns for their incredible textile works and quilts referencing Black history, past and present. They both come from generations of craftspeople in the genre, with skills passed down from ancestors, and the artform as a method of storytelling is emotionally stirring and special.

LAST CHANCE! Come see the We’re Home exhibit at Pace University Art Gallery before it closes tomorrow, Saturday, September 14.

We’re Home is an exhibition which explores relationships within the domestic sphere featuring artists Destiny Belgrave, Katherine Hubbard, Steven Anthony Johnson II, Yung Oh Le Page, Pixy Liao and Margaret Zox Brown.

The exhibit navigates the gentler intricacies of human connection, capturing the essence of home through the lens of shared experiences and precious – though sometimes difficult — memories. Home is often thought of as simply the house or apartment in which we dwell, but home is more accurately the people who surround us and hold us dear. Home can be in the embrace of a lover, a waft of your caregiver’s perfume, or the sound of your child’s cry. The exhibit delves into the enduring ties that bind us together within the sanctuary of the homes we are born into and those we build for ourselves.
