I met @dexterityletterpress at the Rocket House when I was 17, while Sebadoh played a matinee in the front room. Jeff showed me some of his art and I gave him my favorite Red Man hat. I had never known a REAL artist before... Since that day I've had his music through my speakers, his art on my walls and a deep admiration of how real artists do things. Having Jeff handle the cards for my newest artistic endeavor is a full circle moment for me and makes this lil' heart happy. Thanks Jeff, for more than the cards... #art #hometown #Louisville

June Of 44 - Engine Takes To The Water LP 1995

More post rock from Louisville, this time with an even more stacked cast of members. Fred Erskine of The Crownhate Ruin & Hoover, Doug Scharin of Codeine & Rex, Jeff Mueller of Rodan, and Sean Meadows of Lungfish & The Sonora Pine. this album is one of the most important post rock albums ever. it’s so dynamic and all the tones and sounds are just perfect. It’s so dynamic that some of the quiet sections are actually quieter than the crackle on the record. But the loud emotional parts kick in eventually. This album like a lot of post rock is really based around buildup and mood, and I just feel like in my personal opinion this album in particular is one of the more moody 90’s postrock/mathrock records.

Rodan - Rusty LP 1994

More Louisville, Kentucky post rock/ math rock like slint, continuing my recent post rock theme. Rodan is still incredibly underrated and I’ve talked to so many people about Rodan and they have no idea who they are which is insane to me. Idk how a band like this isn’t so much bigger. This band also has lots of interesting ties like Jeff Mueller from June Of 44 and Tara Jane O’Neil from Retsin, Ida, The Sonora Pine, etc. I’ve been listening to this album and Rodan since probably like 2023-2024 I’m not sure, but it’s been a while. I always loved how the chimey, quiet, and intricate guitar parts play over each other perfectly, and then the song explodes with loud, fast, and energetic mathy drums. On top of all that, Tara Jane O’Neil and Jeff Mueller’s Vocals add so much emotion going from whispers to screaming. It must take a lot of skill to be in such a crazy band like this, because everyone is synced up so perfectly. I’m a big fan of this album and all of Rodan’s other stuff too and in my opinion they should be as big or bigger than slint.

Shellac - At Action Park LP 1994 (2002)

I’ve been listening to this album and music like it a lot lately and it’s been getting me through some times, so I thought it was fitting to post it. Between the clangy, scratchy, distorted guitar, or the booming, banging drums, I don’t know which part of their sound is my favorite. This is a really great album to put on to get you through the day or put on in the background to be productive.

Pel Reunion 2026 Screen Printing!

Invoking our beloved Pel shirts of old, we’ve had a design made for this year, and we will have a screen printing station set up in Sandpiper on Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon, with incredible volunteers to guide you through the process.

This is a BRING YOUR OWN item event. Bring a blank t-shirt, sweatshirt, canvas bag, or fancy paper for a print. The print will be done in black ink (though I have word we may have an option for blue, as well, so we will hopefully be able to print on black items, too 🤞) and it is 9” tall by 9.5” wide (so make sure your item has sufficient room). If you forget, buy an item with enough space to fit the print from the incredible Shops on Star and customize it with our design!

Each print will cost just $5, which will help fund our newly named Steve Whitney – Nancy Meyer Financial Aid Fund.

Thank you to @dexterityletterpress for this wonderful design (and the song attached to this post)!

See you in Sandpiper!
