_PACKAGING SYSTEM_2K26

Many of you assumed the packaging was the art piece x-x

The art piece comes within a packaging system that acts as a mounting guideline.
But it was also designed, to fit as a cabin bag on flights.

The intention was to make the unboxing and the mounting experience playful, while keeping the art safe.

Varun Mehta is a transdisciplinary designer from Mumbai, India, with a practice that spans architectural design, identity design, communication design and product design.

Graduating as an architect in 2017 from Mumbai University, his early work focused on how spatial design influences human behavior.

Mehta has worked in key roles at firms such as Studio 823 (Samir Raut, Faizan Khatri), The Busride Design Studio (Zameer and Ayaz Basrai) and Studio Tessera (Sagarika Suri).

In this time, he honed his skills across various crafts such as material studies, architectural research , storytelling through design, up-cycling of construction waste, and sustainable fabrication technologies.
Mehta’s early work exploits have focused on architecture, commercial hospitality projects, residential interiors, co-working spaces, educational spaces as well as web & graphic design.

In 2020, Mehta founded ARC.HV, a non-profit digital platform that unites creatives across disciplines through self-initiated projects, such as Virtual Gods, India’s first virtual art exhibit, and an Open Source Design Library.

In 2022, he completed a Master’s in Computational Design from the Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia, exploring parametric workflows, machine learning, AI; through design for social impact.Mehta has also been an advocate for skateboarding culture in Mumbai, playing a crucial role in developing skateparks and promoting the social impact of public spaces. He is currently the creative director at Urban Monkey where he focuses on making quality design accessible to the masses while fostering creative industrial design innovation, in India.

"Working through deliberately cryptic visual languages, I employ art as a medium for inner dialogue, translating lived experiences, shared memories, and accumulated learnings into layered systems of images, symbols, and spatial interventions".- @dextrostat

dextrostat is a Mumbai-based trans disciplinary artist whose practice navigates the intersections of art, craft, architecture, and design. His work examines how systems of making, memory, and meaning are constructed, negotiated, and transformed across spatial, technological, and cultural contexts.

Positioned between obsessively systematic technical precision and raw emotional intuition, his practice pursues an in-between space that resists disciplinary boundaries. It operates fluidly within and beyond the carefully curated interiors of institutional spaces and the contested terrain of the street; between academic and discursive frameworks of design and the industrial assemblies and workflows of production; between analog craft: drawing, spray paint, and hand-built processes + advanced digital methodologies, computational design, 3D printing and fabrication.

Designed as individual objects. Built to become a system. 
With the products defined, the system was translated into a visual experience. Detailed product drawings, assembly diagrams and functional specifications were brought together to communicate how each piece works, connects and adapts.
The final experience extends into digital touchpoints, presenting the modular products through a structured e-commerce interface—making the complexity of the system accessible, visual and easy to navigate.

COMMUNICATING THE SYSTEM.
The concept was translated into a kit of parts across different scales—from belts and wallets to a sling bag that can carry a 13” iPad. Each component was designed to connect using straps, buckles, D-rings, Velcro patches, and more.

These relationships are communicated through line drawings and exploded diagrams. They help users understand how each product can be used, connected, and configured.

This became the primary visual language for the product segment. Model shoots and videos came later to support product styling and finishing. Presenting “TASTESLOP” for the third edition of @futuresfriends Mumbai 🎱

Our thinking around TASTESLOP comes from the moment we find ourselves in, where taste and slop, individually and together, increasingly dominate our feeds and shape our minds. (h/t @nemesis_emily)

The things we think are cool can begin to feel strangely empty of human idiosyncrasy. As more of what we consume is generated by AI platforms and replicated by algorithms, we end up with a visual culture that feels polished and familiar, but also increasingly bland. ˙⋆✮⋆˚࿔ What happens to taste when originality starts to feel unfamiliar?˙⋆✮⋆˚࿔
