Another important conversation On the Rocks!

A huge thank you to Dallas City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert for joining DW, @dfwulyp and our community for a candid conversation about the opportunities, challenges and decisions shaping our city.

Special thanks to our returning moderator Marlissa “Mel” Collier for masterfully guiding the discussion and creating space for thoughtful questions and real dialogue.

We were also honored to welcome Willis Johnson of JBJ Management and Dr. Brandy Alfred, CEO of @dfwurbanleague and we’re especially grateful to our partners at @dfwulyp for continuing to build this series alongside us.

And a HUGE thank you to our gracious hosts at Mokah Cafe!!! ☕🥃 for continuing to give these conversations a home—and always providing the atmosphere, community and vibes.

Because civic engagement doesn’t end at the ballot box. It requires access, information, responsibility and accountability all year long.

Stay tuned for our November “On the Rocks” date and our next special guest.

Early voting in Texas begins tomorrow, October 19, and St. Luke’s P-SAM (Political Social Action Ministry is kicking off their “Did You Know” series, covering several of the positions that will be on our ballot here in Texas.

Have you ever wondered who changed those election maps last year? Why your property taxes keep going up? Who decides how the state budget is spent — and why some communities get more funding than others? Did the Crown Act really stop hair discrimination?
All of that is the job of the Texas State Legislature.

The Legislature is made up of the Texas State Senate — 31 elected seats — and the Texas House of Representatives — 150 elected seats. And here’s the part people forget: They represent where you live and are supposed to represent you and your interests.

VOTE EARLY & STAY TUNED TO LEARN MORE!

DALLAS… this is one you need to be in the room for.

Just weeks before the November election, On the Rocks: Political Pour Overs is sitting down with the woman responsible for managing one of the largest cities in America.

Kimberly Bizor Tolbert, City Manager for the City of Dallas, is our October special guest.

As City Manager of the 9th-largest city in the nation, Tolbert oversees a $5.2 BILLION budget, more than 13,000 City employees and the day-to-day operations serving 1.3 million Dallas residents. She is the first African American woman to serve as Dallas City Manager and the only woman leading a top-10 U.S. city with a council-manager form of government.

So yes, Dallas—we have some things to talk about.

@dallasweekly + @dfwulyp invite you to PULL UP. Bring your questions. Be part of the conversation.
