3 Trainees. 1 Wild Journey. Welcome to our new series.

We asked our newest trainees at Leopard Trails one simple question: Why the wild? To answer it, they've walked away from the lives they knew.
1. Purni , a Graduate Landscape Architect from the University of Moratuwa, trading structural design for the raw geometry of nature
2. Yohan , a seasoned freelance guide with 8 years on the ground—now handpicked to be refined into the elite Leopard Trails standard.
3. Amal , formerly a Junior Sous Chef, leaving the high-pressure kitchen to master the discipline of the wilderness.

Three different paths. One shared destination. This is the beginning of their transformation.

Watch Episode 1: "The Why" now.

Unlike large lodges that can sometimes dilute the sense of place, Leopard Trails Yala offers a more intimate safari experience.
In our small camp setting, every moment feels personal — guides gather with guests by the fire, stories unfold beneath starlit skies, and meaningful connections are at the heart of it all.
It’s a safari style crafted for those who treasure authenticity and connection over size and scale.

Let us know what is your favorite mammal in Sri Lanka down in the comments.

This will be the first of five such videos by the Leopard Trails trainees.

In this video have a look at the answers they gave to the question "what is your favorite animal/mammal in Sri Lanka?"
Also instructor Malmi joined in the fun.

These videos were recorded spontaneously while conducting other training exercises to observe if they can perform with a short notice of time.

Their presentation skills were tested and other than that they were educated on how to present ones self to the camera, how to use equipment (microphone, tripod) to enhance the quality of the video, how to use facial expressions, body language to convey ones ideas.

Among the many things that are synonymous with Sri Lanka, one everyday thing stands out like a beacon, that is our RICE & CURRY. You can keep your distance from the outside world at our camp, but you can't keep your distance from this. Sri Lankan cuisine is best experienced with rice and curries. It is vibrant and flavorful.

You serve the rice first and then set your sights on the curries. Hence, rice and curry. We have always been a very prosperous agricultural nation with rich customs and naturally so, rice has become our mainstay. When it comes to curries, there's generally some sort of animal protein (fish, chicken, goat, beef), some sort of lentil, fresh vegetables right off the patch, a sort of a cooked salad what we call "maellum" and more often than not, crispy poppadoms or something deep fried to add that crunchiness. Whether you're a vegetarian, vegan, or all-purpose "foodie", our curries can and will supplement you with what you are after so worry not. We love our spices as they are what transform raw ingredients into a fragrant, saliva-inducing curry that we absolutely love. To your palette, the composition of curry might taste too hot. Do not worry, spiciness can be tamed. Communicate your spice tolerance well in advance to your chef.
