Glimpses from ‘A Retrospective for Lab Nilaya’

~
From 2015 to 2025, the dedicated wall covering studio, Lab Nilaya, was home to a group of multidisciplinary designers who explored artistic traditions, histories and culture; methods of making and techniques; materials and form; and concepts and imagination. Weaving all of these together were one of a kind patterns.

Each collection bore the studio’s signature, enriched by the unique voice of every designer-soft spoken to playful, dreamlike to dramatic. The guiding principle was inspirations were waiting to be found: in the rhythms of a monsoon, the geometry of a textile, the silence of a fort wall, or the vivid abstractions of a child’s world. But it was dialogue, collaboration, and experimentation with craft and art forms that shaped the designs.

This brown speckled stoneware clay really comes alive when glaze fired - the white speckles are recycled white stoneware clay from the studio. Cutest espresso cups - a custom order, but shall definitely make some more for the shop.
