Totalitarian regimes — Soviet-Russian, fascist, Nazi — and the “soft” versions of the American mass myth all target the imagination, imposing simple plots and fixed roles. @dianafaksh Pipi series works differently: her protagonist slips away from ready-made narratives and brings the seams of ideology to the surface — the points where the “grand story” begins to crack.

Through humor, awkwardness, and exaggeration, these works expose how storytelling and pop culture standardize desires and bodies. At the same time, the American mass myth of “be whoever you want to be” coexists with other normalization mechanisms — replacing the pressure of external force with the pressure of self-projection.

Here, absurdity becomes a method of decoding: it restores ambiguity, makes renaming possible, and opens up room for daily choices — made through the body, voice, and gesture. Pipi offers no answers but forces us to see how the global human game is stitched together (@xeniaulyanova)

Playground is a space where familiar rules no longer apply. The world has become increasingly unpredictable. In an age of permanent turbulence, play becomes a strategy for existence — a way to resist, to experiment, and to search for new forms of coexistence. Aesthetic affectation gives way to radical sincerity, and chaos becomes a generative resource.

This exhibition brings together artists whose practices play with reality, reframe the value of diverse experiences, and dismantle hierarchies. The curatorial structure draws inspiration from the writings of French philosopher and cultural theorist Roger Caillois, who described play as a multi-layered system, where competition (agon), mimicry, chance (alea) and vertigo (ilinx) mix and collide to form a dynamic field of action. These intertwined game structures are present in each of the works on display — in different intensities and directions.

Today, play is no longer innocent. It becomes a strategy of resistance, a way to break through silence, inertia, and impotent rage. The playground is open now. The audience is invited to play — @xeniaulyanova curator

Kseniia Ulianova @xeniaulyanova , the UFDA’s curator, shares her thoughts about Diana Faksh’s @dianafaksh work, The Mother-Centipede:

“The artist frequently draws on her background in sacred painting, blending its traditions with contemporary experimentation. The imagery in her work echoes classical iconography while simultaneously evolving into layered, ephemeral narratives and a visual reimagining of religious forms.

At the heart of the composition stands the Virgin Mary — her face rendered with clarity, encircled by a golden halo. In contrast, Christ’s visage is barely perceptible, dissolving into an abstract interplay of lines and watercolor.

In this piece, Diana employs collage not only conceptually — juxtaposing a sacred image with an insect — but also formally, integrating diverse materials and textures to deepen the visual dialogue.”

“Diana Faksh @dianafaksh constructs a poetic space in her work, where deep-seated horror intertwines with the everyday. Or perhaps the opposite — the ordinary is magnified to a monumental scale by its very inability to conform to normalcy.

In her series «My Monologue in the Box,» the artist explores themes of motherhood, personal sanctuary, and the romanticization of domestic life, imbuing the mundane with a sense of conditional security.

The motif of the cube (or box) frequently appears in her work, serving not only as a compositional device for visual fragmentation but also as a symbol of a space that is at once unsettling and comforting — a place for introspection and a form of quiet escapism.” — Kseniia Ulianova @xeniaulyanova , the UFDA’s curator.

Curated a selection of Ukrainian art for the Bitcoin & UA Liberty event in Lviv.

Featuring works by Zhanna Kadyrova, Ola Yeriemieieva, Waone Interesni Kazki, Olena Topolian, Diana Faksh, and Ihor Sieliemieniev, all digitized by @digitaloriginal.app Digital Original for @u_f_d_a UFDA.

The aim was to open a dialogue around the fragility of the human body.
The showcase opens with Anxiety, a work whose title translates from Ukrainian as “air alert,” symbolizing the disruption of a peaceful daily scene.

It continues with Study Hall II by Waone, exploring how we hold on to everyday life in times of crisis. Where anxiety gives way to reflection, resistance, and the boundless strength of the human spirit.

Thank you @scrybz.collective and @esfliberty for the organization and invitation!
