In 1929, in Southern Nigeria, the women of the Igbo tribe organized a massive riot against the British colonial administration to protest against the Indirect Rule, which had imposed a form of local leadership involving British appointed chiefs. These events are recalled as the Women's War of 1929, during which thousands of Women stood up to protect their status in their society. From Liberty, my new series, a chronology of black protests in Africa and the Diaspora. Showing in a city near you soon. #myWork @galerie_magnin_a @dijanaay #history 🇳🇬 🇸🇳 #uprizing

Celebrating the memory of Nanny and her brother Quao, a #Jamaican historical figure who spearheaded the Maroon resistance during the 18th century. She founded Nanny Town, a community of runaway slaves, which prospered and was a refuge for a thriving society. She freed dozens, ruled the community and defended it against the English. She was born in the Ashanti kingdom (present day Ghana) Talk about Black Girl Magic.... there you have it. From #Liberty, my new series, a chronology of black protest in Africa and across the Diaspora. Hopefully showing in a city near you soon. @galerie_magnin_a #myWork #Jamaica #history #uprising @dijanaay 🇬🇭 🇯🇲 🇸🇳
