Lochan Upadhyay begins with the familiarity of an object, then shifts it just enough to make that familiarity uncertain.
The work holds its tension in that in-between state: something to sit on, something to look at, and something that refuses to settle completely into either.

What happens when a seat becomes a small social space?

House of Piranesi’s Terra Teka begins with observations of how people occupy public spaces , pausing, leaning, perching, sitting or gathering. Developed as modular forms, the works allow for different kinds of use and proximity, turning seating into a site for informal interaction and exchange.

Made using recycled stone and glass waste through a terrazzo-based process, the pieces bring together material reuse with a playful geometry that can shift according to the space and the people around them.

Setting the tone for the art season ahead, Delhi Contemporary Art Week (@delhicontemporaryartweek) returns for its ninth edition, 31 August to 5 September at Bikaner House.

Six women-led Delhi galleries take over the CCA: Blueprint12 (@blueprint2012), Exhibit 320 (@exhibit320), Gallery Espace (@galleryespace), Latitude 28 (@latitude_28), Shrine Empire (@shrineempire) and Vadehra Art Gallery (@vadehraartgallery), each bringing its own curatorial vision and a mix of established and emerging artists from across the subcontinent. Two curatorial exhibitions carry the week into the rest of the house: Adwait Singh's (@iaghastwind) Bye-Bye Monsoon at the LTC, on extreme weather, shifting monsoonal patterns and the forces behind a changing climate, and Annalisa Mansukhani's (@cateyesilhouettes) This Animate Earth in the Main Building, reading plants as sites of knowledge and memory and tracing their ties to land, caste, empire and extraction.

For Delhi Contemporary Art Week 2026, Gallery Espace (@galleryespace) brings together the showcase ‘Presenting Abundance’. The exhibition explores an expansive way of seeing through intricate details, luminous surfaces and expressive forms. Rooted in miniature traditions while venturing into abstraction, the artworks transform precision, ornamentation, and materials into reflections on memory, identity, and emotion.

Be sure to catch the key highlights of the exhibition, including Waswo X. Waswo’s works, Viswanath Kuttum’s diptych, Nandini Bagla Chirimar’s green and black series, and Kishor Shinde’s exploration of abstraction.

Founded in 1989 by Renu Modi (@renu_modi), Gallery Espace has been a prominent New Delhi art space that nurtures contemporary Indian art practices. The gallery has historically connected the Modernist pioneers with emerging artists, fostering innovation within the Indian art scene.

At first glance, the artwork looks like a collage of door frames, architecture and trees. However, look closer and you see each one carrying its own quiet story. Dilip Chobisa’s Mountain of Pride 14 is a rhythmic meditation on scale and texture. The twenty-four-tile grid feels like a gentle inventory of belonging, built from materials as grounded as the memories they hold.

On view now at 1X1, Dilip Chobisa’s (@dilipchobisa) “Dual Dialogues A & B" (2025) sets two works in quiet conversation with one another. Rendered in dry pastel and graphite on canvas, the pieces hold a tension between mark and absence, between what is drawn and what is withheld.

Last few days to see the works on view as part of our group show 'The Cage Went in Search of a Bird,' open daily from 10 AM to 7 PM at 1X1 Art Gallery, Alserkal Avenue, Dubai.

Some favourites from the art fair.

What’s drew me in the most weren’t just the big, familiar names, but also the artists using unconventional, intriguing techniques to create and express.
@bosejayati intriguing use of clay with brass, bringing back childhood memories of punching dolls.
@pulkitprajapati13 layered, reverse transfer painting technique just blew my mind.
@maatimaniac deeply sustainable, material‑driven practice — where clay, fire, locally available wood and processes become part of the idea — felt especially resonant.
@dilipchobisa restrained yet impactful colour palette, and ofcourse a special soft corner for architectural illustrations, is so captivating.

It’s this sensitivity to how something is made, not just what it looks like, that kept pulling my attention.

Still in the afterglow.

Open today at Espace Project Space

‘Gently, Swiftly... All at Once’

The world is shaped by difference, encountered gently or swiftly and sometimes all at once. One may marvel at it or recoil from it, yet in either state we are bound to the act of experiencing, moving through a reality in which multiple ways of “being” unfold in parallel. The many genres through which art is practised and encountered invite us to perceive our surroundings as layered affectations carried within ourselves. As we navigate what feels unfamiliar, we also recognise echoes and affinities that impel us to locate our voice and refine our vision. This exhibition brings together the varied differences hosted by Gallery Espace, presenting artistic oeuvres that move concurrently, distinct yet coexisting, and echo journeys that have become central to the gallery’s evolving identity.
