Photo Journal 018 – Clear Lake, California

After a full day of bass fishing, Dillon took advantage of a few Airbnb amenities and paddled out onto Clear Lake as the sun was going down. I saw him heading across the water, ran back for the camera, and grabbed a few frames while the light was still hanging around.

Nothing planned, just a quiet moment after a long day on the water. Dillon taking in the view, enjoying a little peace and quiet before calling it a night.

Before we get all excited let me preface this by saying that the Two Tom’s striper pick was caught North of us as they ran their boat North. The good news is that the bass are on the move and heading our way. Will they be here today???, tomorrow ???, next week???, or in 2 weeks ??? , I really don’t know. Those who like to fish the boats and the back bays know that we have stripers here now back there as they are our resident fish and never leave. We do know that the migration is underway and they will be here soon. We are getting in a load of eels today and we will keep them in our tanks and I’m waiting to see what they are going to cost. They used to be the cheaper alternative to spot but the way their price has been increasing it is no longer a “cheap” bait but they do work despite being a pain in the a$$ to deal with. Just make sure you have several dry rags when you are handling them and you will be fine. The boat rig we put them on is a simple non-offset circle hook (5/0-8/0) attached to a 18”-36” leader ( mono or fluoro your choice) , a torpedo weight .5oz-3oz (depends where you are fishing ) and a swivel or snap swivel. It’s a very simple rig to tie and if you don’t feel confident in your skills we have a bunch of rigs tied here at the shop.
If you are throwing them off the jetty from land we have several different rigs to use. The bass will be here VERY soon and we are putting a 50.00 Riptide Gift card out there for the first one caught from the Brigantine NJ surf and weighed in at the shop. 28”-31”is the legal size and 1 per angler.
Shop is open EVERY day ALL day from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Call if you need bait left out back for an after-hours pick up.

Life lately at @fieldandstream

From noodling catfish in Oklahoma to 60+ miles on a caribou hunt in Alaska, fishing in Sitka with Mikey and Tanner, 23 miles on foot in one day to catch golden trout in Montana, and watching bison in Yellowstone at sunrise.

A lot of miles, a lot of early mornings, and not much sleep. Feeling grateful, thankful, exhausted, and ready for some fall weather.

Our first stop on the Bozeman tour with @fieldandstream brought us to @sportsmans_warehouse where we decided we would get geared up for the week.
@hardmanfishingadventures and I tackled most of the fly gear while @fishlikemike and @dilllfish took on all of our spinning tackle.
Turns out @dilllfish is a huge fan of spinners and needed every colour that Sportsman’s had in stock. The real question is just how many spinners did we buy? Comment below 👇🏼

When opportunity knocks!! Spent the morning fishing marlin for 1 knock down but no fish. Wind picked up so we headed to the island to test out some new electric reels. Set up our drift and this bull swims right up to the boat, popper goes out he’s interested but doesn’t commit. I throw my surface iron and he smashes it fish on drag pulling then he comes off and then immediately turns and inhales one of Nachos “Mexican Sardines” and we are on again! Never know what you might catch while rock fishing. We also happened to pull a nice yellow off the bottom on a slow pitch jig in 250’ of water.
