If Death respected people at all, it would have recognised the monumental contributions you made to humanity and run far away from you. It would have noticed your unquenchable love for excellence. It would have apologized and disappeared for your attention to detail. For how passionate you were about your craft, about building people, about your family.

It would have stopped in its tracks at how highly you spoke of your wife. It would have respected the hours of voicenotes you and I shared discussing Kingdom and film. It would have done a 180 when it realised the enormity of your unachieved dreams.

And so I have come to the same conclusion as the writer of Ecclesiastes: death is the ultimate equalizer. Rain falls on both the evil and the good, as Jesus echoed on the mount. My limited human mind can make no sense of it, except to be grateful for the life you lived and the privilege of being a tiny part of your legacy.

If you are fortunate enough to be reading this… if you are lucky enough to be one of those fertilized eggs chosen out of zillions to birth a soul into this realm, please make the most of it, as Dimbo did.

Do good. Be kind. Love God. Love family. Love people. Build people. Be present. Dream big. Like Dimbo did.

Rest in peace and power, dear friend. For the values you stood for and lives you touched, I salute you and will always be grateful. May God hold your wife and children close.

Always,

Fadekemi.

• My truth… this has been over a decade long friendship with @dimboba or “Boba” as I always called him. •
•
• From:

- Sons Of The Caliphate Season 1 & 2 to
- Halita Season 2 to
- The Plan to
- Rishante’s Season 1 & 2 to
- Wrath And Revenge: A Sons Of The Caliphate story…

@dimboba has been instrumental in my career with memorable characters and shows that fans still relate me too. Truly the entertainment industry has lost a Champion. •
•
• It’s been a hard year for me personally, with death testing my faith, and Dimbo’s passing has pushed that faith to the limit, but we must forge ahead until we no longer can. •
•
• Dimbo’s legacy resonates through so many of us… and I’ve learned so much from Boba, skills I use in my acting and now my script writing & directing. •
•
• Thank you Boba… Thank you dear brother & friend… and I’m so sorry you left us so soon. So so sorry. •

My move to Abuja started with Mr. Dimbo.
Travelled all the way for an interview during a crew call and that was it. He'd been most intrigued that I was a hairstylist, amongst other things, and let me handle that department on the next project, my first.
I was working with THE DIMBO ATIYA!
It was an amazing time. Anyone on Mr. Dimbo's sets knows this. Cast and crew come to feel like family - still do.

Mr. Dimbo was my boss.

Overtime...
Me: Mr. Dimbs, I have this script written down.

Him: send it to me let me have a look.
.
Me: Mr. Dimbs, I picked up the skill of clapperboard loader on this set.

Him: oh, awesome. You'd work clapperboard and continuity on the next set.

I did, and at the end of STRONG, he had me included my name on the board - yes, he knew how to celebrate little wins.

Script supervision. Assistant director. I grew, of course. His is probably the set that let's you actively do that. You don't have to come already made.
When asked what I do I simply go, "I'm a filmmaker...because my Boss let's my role vary from project to project."

So the last we met, at the premiere of Remi and Nneoma, I was excited to tell him I was working on making my first short film, my debut as a director.
He was happy. He was proud. "Come by the office, let's talk..."

The entertainment hub was starting soon so I stalled...then got the phone call this morning.
My first thought was Aunty Karachi.
Mr. Dimbo is a lover, you see? Absolutely loves his wife.
Second was his family.
Then the host of community he left behind - on that note it's tempting to term this "unfair."
There was so much more left.

Mr. Dimbo was a "perfectionist" - this, for want of a better word - as regards his movies.
Just go see any of them. The cast, crew, set, costumes, frames...he was creative director and more.

Mr. Dimbo always had room in his heart for people.

Mr. Dimbo gave one of the warmest hugs.
.
I've gone "omoooooooo" today more times than I can count as words fail me.

The tears have stayed stuck in a cycle of coming and going.

I know you'll continue to live on in many hearts.

Rest on, Dimboba Atiya
Thank God for loaning you to the world.
It was an honour.
Thank You.
