Ten years in the making. Almost finished. Zero images. And it will never be published.

Dina Danish has been working on Open with Left Hand (designed by Felix Salut) for more than ten years. It began as an attempt to document her work without a single image, and it has resisted completion ever since: endless revisions, a constrained vocabulary, and lately, AI.

So instead of waiting for the book, Dina brings it to life. Come and hear her read performative passages and the introduction by philosopher Graham Harman, followed by an invisible signing of a book you can’t buy. 🖋️

Possible guests: Felix Salut, Dorothe Orczyk and perhaps Graham Harman himself.

Tomorrow, 17:00. Bring a pen. Or don’t.

Dina's Side Hustles 🚩

A programme accompanying Dina Danish's solo exhibition, Ships and Multilateral Meetings, at Stigter van Doesburg.

A side hustle is usually something you do alongside your main job to make a little extra money. Dina's main job is being an artist, which many people would already consider a side hustle. She uses the term to give more space to parts of her practice that have been easy to overlook.

One project sells soap; another celebrates a book that has never been published; the third throws a birthday party for a sentence. Each has taken time, research and attention, though little of that work has been seen in public

The events also put the gallery to different uses. The works in the exhibition become backdrops for a launch, a reading and a birthday party.

Join us for the official launch of Phénix de Ces Rois, a side hustle Dina has developed with her sister, neuroscientist Dalia Danish.

Together, they make soaps in small, numbered editions, each with its own recipe and magic spell. Their sources include the Ebers Papyrus and the writings of Pliny the Elder.

In Cairo’s historic tent making district, artisans have sewn Khayameyya appliqué for centuries , vast hand-stitched canvases once made for weddings, mourning and celebration.

Dina Danish borrows this language for something else entirely: the news cycle. (Anonymous) portraits of world leaders. Straits closed by war. Diplomatic tables where nothing gets resolved.

Her solo show Ships and Multilateral Meetings turns what flashes past in a feed into something built to last.
