Rachmaninov takes the concerto’s simple opening melody and, in this cadenza, turns it into something monumental—as if an entire orchestra were trying to emerge from the piano. Here is a snippet from the beginning of the cadenza.

I’m thrilled to perform Rachmaninov’s Third Piano Concerto with my wonderful colleagues in the @edmontonsymphony, conducted by @jmzeitouni , as part of the Rachmaninoff Festival. Join us for an evening of passion, drama, and breathtaking music.

A pretty special day for our Westlawn and Eastwood Middle School string students. 🎻

At Meet the Maestro, students had the chance to step inside the world of the orchestra—meeting Maestro Adam Flatt, asking questions, and learning more about what it takes to make music at a professional level.

They also got an unforgettable bonus: a special performance from Grammy Award-winning violinist Melissa White.

Opportunities like this give young musicians the chance to see where their own playing can lead—and to learn directly from artists who are living it every day.

Tonight: Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 with the Mississauga Symphony Orchestra and Denis Mastromonaco.

Here’s a passage from Beethoven’s own cadenza in the first movement, the piano is left alone—questioning, dreaming, and occasionally getting carried away.

Looking forward to sharing this remarkable music with you tonight!

TŌN welcomes guest conductor Kellen Gray, Associate Artist of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (Glasgow, UK) and Artistic Director of the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra (Indiana, US) and violinist Melissa White, a first-prize laureate in the Sphinx Competition and a founding member of the Grammy-winning Harlem Quartet, for a concert highlighting the music of four celebrated American composers. Aaron Copland’s rhythmically intricate 1933 “Short Symphony” will be performed alongside two works by Black composers of the same generation. The soulful Violin Concerto No. 1 by Florence Price dates to 1939, but was never performed in the composer’s lifetime, having only been found in 2009 and premiered in 2018. William Grant Still’s optimistic Fourth Symphony, “Autochthonous”, imagines America as a place of ingenuity and inclusivity. Also on the program is the meditative recent work Hymn for Everyone by Jessie Montgomery, Performance Today’s 2025 Classical Woman of the Year.

Thrilled to share my 2026/27 season.

The months ahead will bring performances across North America and Europe—from Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Prokofiev and Rachmaninov concertos to recitals and chamber music with wonderful colleagues.

I’m especially looking forward to returning to familiar stages, discovering new ones, and sharing this music with audiences in so many different places.

I hope to see you somewhere along the way.
