Upcycling discarded t-shirts into stylish accessories to promote circular fashion

Sister Derby has ALWAYS been ahead of the curve... AND a fashion icon.

For OWO24, she took the stage in a look by @dinnanioff made entirely from yarn made from old T-shirts from Kantamanto.
And she’s been rocking Dinnani’s creations nonstop ever since. Because when sustainability meets serious style, you don’t just wear the look. You live in it.
So naturally, we’re very curious to see what The African Mermaid be wearing (and dreaming up) at The Upcycling Bazaar at @untamedempire this October, where she’ll be performing live once again. And @dinnanioff will be there too, with more upcycled pieces for you to fall in love with.
Link to tickets in our bio.
We’ll also be sharing free tickets at all of our activations throughout the month so be sure to pass by!!
October 25 at Untamed Empire. Come for the fashion, stay for Derbytopia.

Last week, we had the privilege of welcoming The Or Foundation and an incredible group of Ghanaian designers to our Concept Store in London Fields.

Kantamanto Market is often spoken about as the end of fashion’s story. This collaboration reminded us it’s also where countless new stories begin. Through extraordinary craftsmanship, creativity and resilience, these designers are transforming discarded textiles into pieces that challenge the way we think about waste, value and fashion itself.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, supported the designers and helped make this collaboration so special.
Missed the pop-up? We’ve kept a selection of the collection in-store, so you can still come by, discover the designers and shop the pieces while they’re still available!

Special thanks to @virgiledurando who not only organised the designers work and travels and represented the important work of The Or Foundation but also helped me, hands on, to get everything built on a very tight schedule. Thanks also to @elenorno
@timberhousepress @elasticgallery Ida, Hanna, Norea, Sam and everyone else

Lots of love from me!

The hidden cost of a fashion system built on excess.

Garments that have been donated or “recycled” by customers in Europe, China, and North America travel thousands of miles to reach Kantamanto in Ghana, one of the world's largest secondhand clothing markets. There, women and girls working as head porters, or kayayei, transport 120-pound bales of discarded clothing on their heads at immense risk and for little pay.

But local communities are building pathways toward education, care, and transformation. For Atmos, Whitney Bauck (@unwrinkling) traveled to Ghana to speak with the kayayei and learn how environmental justice organization @theorispresent is working alongside them to tell their stories on their own terms and build futures beyond survival.
