I do love a hardworking utility room 🤍

We carved out space in this London terrace for a generous utility room, keeping things calm, pared back and practical for what is arguably the hardest-working room in the house.

A little worktop curtain brings some texture and softness to what can otherwise be quite a ‘hard’ space. Not just a pretty add on… I love how easy it makes grabbing whatever is hiding behind it! I also love using Katy Paty Roo switches and sockets in rooms like this, their little wooden surrounds are just the sweetest, you can just about see them if you zoom in on the first pic.

And of course, no utility room is complete without one of my favourite additions - the pulley maid. Yet to work on a house where I’ve suggested one and the clients haven’t been converted! 👌Think I might need at least 3 in my next house 🙃

Interplay (Work in progress)
Oil on Canvas

My painting practice is a constant struggle, shaped by uncertainty and self doubt as I question whether the work is any good. Each painting is a real challenge, never easy to produce and the process is always unpredictable.

My current work developed from a daily drawing 17 August, which has gradually taken a life of its own, evolving through a series of transformations. I allowed the painting to develop organically, responding to the changes that emerge along the way. The work remains open-ended and is never ever truly finished.

Are you interested in learning how to lino print? or do you need to refresh your skills?

or perhaps you would like to learn how to make your very own sketchbooks for yourself or to make beautiful gifts

Well the exciting news is that I have three wonderful workshops coming up in Thornbury in the beautiful Discerning palette Gallery.

you can expect:
Cosy warm atmosphere
Support from a professional Artist
coming home with beautiful things you have made
information to continue crafting at home
Refreshments
toilets on site

You will learn how to design, carve and print your very own piece of handmade art with expert teaching in the relaxed, welcoming environment of Discerning Palette Gallery. Bring your own ideas and images to work from or use the inspiration provided in the workshop, I will also provide a selection of images and botanicals to help you create a folky nature inspired piece.

Demonstrations will be given on how to design and transfer your design to Lino, how to carve an image, achieve variety in line and detail and how to ink up a lino well for a strong even print. You will use a printing press to print your image with a selection of handmade and printmaking papers to try. You will be creating a one colour print but will also have a chance to be creative by introducing colour with the method of chine-collé, the layering of thin coloured papers.

You will learn how to design and sew your very own Artist sketchbook. Create with expert teaching in the relaxed, welcoming environment of Discerning Palette Gallery. I will help you create loose abstract designs for your front and back covers using acrylics and inks, as they are drying you will be guided in how to mark out your pattern guideline, we will be initially working with the four hole stitch but information will be provided onto how to complete variations of the design. Once the covers are dry, you will mark out the holes and sew your book together.

All materials, instructions and equipment will be provided for you to complete at least one book in the session, depending on how fast you work you may be able to produce more than one, or try a different variation. Once you have made a book
