Yep we missed it 🙃

It’s been a month but we’ve finally come to terms with missing the Disco Freaks shout out @nilerodgers @dreamlandmargate gig.

DJing the afterparty for the biggest names in disco in Matt’s hometown of Margate was a big enough bucket list moment, but as we had to leave the gig early to get ready to play we missed an even bigger moment..

On our way from the gig to the afterparty venue, texts came flooding through…the legendary drummer for Chic @drumrolle gave us a big old shout out on stage as he takes over vocal duties for their performance of David Bowie’s Let’s Dance.

Chic shouting out the Disco Freaks in Matty Margate’s hometown just before we soundtracked the afterparty. Didn’t picture that when we started this thing in 2013, the Summer of Get Lucky. Our 13th birthday is coming up, unlucky for some I guess… 🙃

Alas, that’s one big moment for the memoirs. We’re forever grateful to Ralph (and our friends for letting us know). Totally fine that no one filmed it, honestly. Maybe something’s are better left uncaptured?

That moment gave us the energy to power through an amazing weekend by the coast surrounded by lots and lots of lovely friends and cracking food.

And really is there anything cooler than strolling off to the afterparty while missing your biggest disco moment? Nope. Totally fine. Totally cool with it. Move it on.

August is over. The music has stopped and the door has closed…

Together — over 31 days — we raised 75.000 kr for children affected by war in Gaza and Ukraine. Every krone is being donated to The Danish House in Palestine and Mission East (Ukraine programme), as promised.

We said from the beginning that this month wasn’t really about us. It was about the people who make Søhesten what it is. Ten years in, that feels more true than ever.

Thank you to every guest who came through the door and paid entry knowing where the money was going.

Thank you to the jazz musicians who gave us two concerts every Wednesday and Thursday, and to Musik Syndikatet for building the programme with us.

Thank you to the DJs and record collectors who carried disco, funk, soul and Italo through our speakers, weekend after weekend.

Thank you to the Tuesday quiz regulars, to the dancers who stayed until close, and to everyone who filled the bar night after night.

Thank you to Luca and Viktor, who carried the month on the floor, night after night. None of it would have worked without you.

If you’d like to keep get more info on both organisations:
thedanishhouseinpalestine.dk · miseast.org

Ten years. Same room. Same values. One month that meant a little more.

With love,

Søhesten
