As we venture back for another school year - the GSGEDM team has made classroom licenses available. You can purchase a Classroom License + GSGEDM DVD for use in your classroom complete with a Facilitation Guide on DetroitTechnoMovie.com. We are also booking larger scale educational screenings now! Please DM us with your requests. MEMCO’s Trifecta Screening + Panel at the Ann Arbor Public Library in February 2024 helped cement GSGEDM as a teaching tool. This special University of Michigan event featured a panel discussion with John Collins, Stacey Hotwaxx Hale, Delano Smith, Eric Jackson and Crystal Mioner - where they took time to share their unique insider perspective on the origins of Techno music. Moments like this will always stick with our team as a beautiful point of connection between generations. Big respect and love to DJ John Jammin’ Collins - may he rest in peace, his legacy as an iconic DJ, and his impact as a community leader will reverberate across generations to come. #technoisblackhistory #technoasateachingtool #gsgedm #gsgedmnowonDVD

Almost five years of Ladder, and I’m realizing that “not a restaurant” comes across as more of a bit than something we wanted to bake into how we think this place should feel. As a guest, as part of the team, as someone we buy food or wine from, you name it. Turns out, there’s an actual reason James has always insisted he’s not interested in opening a restaurant, and why that idea has kept me here, tweaking, sweating, stressing at times, and why I like my job so much (usually). A lot of what I talk about here is hard to articulate in a brief passing conversation, but is always on my mind. The idea of who we all actually work for, and the how and why for me in this line of work, has come into sharper focus in the wake of Tommy York’s passing. You can read a little bit about what I think we are, what I think we aren’t, and what has to go right when you come in. And what one of the people who really got it right taught me from afar, and how I know I’m not the only one who learned it. Link in bio to read the whole thing.
