I fell in love with Jos after experiencing the city through NYSC camp and that inspired me to host “Embers to Expressions”

Plateau State is one of the most beautiful state in Nigeria cause of its weather, food, history, landscape, fashion sense and softness of the people but conflict has made it difficult for people to explore it’s beauty

Young people of Plateau are so cool & creative but the weight of conflict, and the quiet pressure of hyper-vigilance can make it easy to lose one’s creative spark

Sometimes around May, I attended the Regional Collaboration on Peacebuilding and Social Cohesion in Cameroon 🇨🇲. All of the experiences from that program built my interest in peacebuilding. That has inspired me to host “Embers to Expressions” in Jos, Plateau State; in my opinion, the coolest state in Nigeria

Youths born and residents of Jos participated in “Embers to Expressions” creating a safe, relaxed gathering to unwind, process shared experiences and reconnect with their creativity identity alongside peers who understand, featuring activities like;

🫂 Grounding Circle; a gentle opening exercise to build trust and calm environment to settle
💆🏽‍♂️💆🏽 Name It Tame It; where participants are guided to share stories and acknowledge the impact of conflict on their lives, identity, and creativity
😮‍💨 Somatic breathing exercise followed to help regulate emotions and find calm
✨ Creative Unlocking Session; one of the participants, Nankat Nathaniel, shared a powerful spoken-word. Check last 2 slides
🎨🧠 My favourite part; Neurographics Drawing, a drawing method that blends drawing art, neuroscience and psychology to process emotion and resolve inner conflict. I’m happy I could introduce it to the participants

I invited a peacebuilding expert who lives and understands Jos history to facilitate the Possibilities Circle; a supportive, affirming space to map out vibrant futures beyond conflict

The goal isn’t to bring back sad stories but to create a safe space and build a community for hope and possibilities

Supported by @boschalumninet x @engr_francis_ameh x Dr Plangnan

Thank you for making it possible, let’s do it again bigger & better!🫶🏼❤️

Question for you: Do you think self-respect is really the root of discipline? Let's talk in the comments!
