How do you find a bird you can’t see?

You listen first. At Mantis Hiddn in Addo, guides teach birding by ear, naming each call before the bird shows itself, so a quiet morning in the bush becomes a roll call. As summer birding begins, the day runs from first light to nocturnal ecology walks after dark, with the pool and a book in between.

In honour of world migratory day we celebrate the journeys that connect landscapes, seasons and species across the world.

Mantis Hiddn in Addo has been named a South Africa winner in the Hotel Development category of the 2026–2027 African Property Awards.

The category looks at a development as a whole, from the site and the planning to the infrastructure and the commercial case behind the hotel.

Bruce McNicol, co-founder and Development Director of Terra Nova Create, carried Hiddn from scouting the site to opening day, alongside an exceptional team of contractors, consultants and specialists who shared the vision.

On 22 October, Bruce receives the award at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London, where the final level of recognition will be announced.

Follow the line, and you begin to understand what we stand for.

It starts with culture, protected, restored and respected.

Then come the people, the guides, hosts, chefs and communities who give each place its sense of belonging.

Through culture and craft, local stories, materials and traditions shape the experience.

Into wellbeing and adventure, where nature becomes part of how we rest, reconnect and explore.
And always, back to place. Mountains, forests, savannahs and waterways are not simply the backdrop. They are part of the story.

Different places. Different people. One line connecting them all.

Man and Nature Together Is Sustainable.

Behind the lens, the Felix crew has a fairly serious case of wanderlust.

One minute we’re in Kenya with @wearewilderness, capturing the warmth, people and stories that make the place so special. The next, we’re in Cape Town eating our way through the culinary artistry at @curateatellermanhouse. Then it’s off to the Eastern Cape with @discoverhiddn for a little peace and quiet, although our cameras rarely seem to get the memo.

We’ve marvelled at the ancient landscapes of Saudi Arabia, stepped into the world of modern cowboys at @felinefields, and followed the rivers through the wild corners of @tengile_malamala_collection.

Different places. Different stories. Very different amounts of dust.

But wherever the team lands, the job stays the same: to listen, look closely, and bring some of the world’s most remarkable corners to life through visual storytelling.

And, fortunately, we’re still very happy to call this work.

Juan recently had the opportunity to experience Hiddn in Addo and returned thoroughly impressed by the warm hospitality, exceptional food and genuine passion of the team. From the thoughtful service and beautifully prepared meals to the memorable wine pairing, indulgent wellness treatments and knowledgeable guiding, every aspect of the stay made a lasting impression. Juan particularly enjoyed the opportunity to slow down and reconnect with nature, and feels Hiddn fills a unique niche for guests looking to break up a busy Cape Town and safari itinerary with a few days of genuine downtime. With its combination of wellness, nature-based experiences, beautiful surroundings and relaxed luxury, Hiddn is a wonderful addition to a Southern African itinerary.

Des, a Field Guide at @discoverhiddn, has spent years learning the bush, reading its rhythms and understanding what makes a safari more than simply a list of animals to see. In this conversation, he answers some of the questions that naturally come up when you are planning your first safari, from choosing where to begin in South Africa to making the most of your time in the wild.

Because the right safari is about more than finding the right destination. The reserve, the guide, the lodge, the pace and the way you want to experience the landscape all shape the journey. And sometimes, the best insight comes from someone who has spent enough time in the field to know that the moments you remember most are not always the ones you planned for.

At Safari Circle, that is where we start too. Your Safari DNA helps us understand how you naturally travel before we consider where you should go, so your safari is shaped around the experience you actually want rather than a generic checklist.

Watch the conversation with Des, then discover your own Safari DNA and start building a safari that feels like yours.

A week in South Africa, and a lot to bring home.

There was Cape Town. Wine in the Winelands. Safari drives through the Eastern Cape. Hotels we’re still talking about. And more than a few moments when taking notes completely stopped being the priority.

South Africa, you gave us a lot to work with. 🦒

Nobody schedules a nap into a wellness itinerary.

At Mantis Hiddn in Addo, the afternoon is allowed to disappear.

Across the Panoramic Mountain Suites, Two Bedroom Mountain Suites and Four Bedroom Mountain Villa, the interiors change - but the feeling stays quiet.

Mountain views. Private decks. Natural textures. Space to sleep, read, rest or simply sit outside in the Eastern Cape wilderness.
