I knew nothing about Valley City, North Dakota before I went there. Now I’m excited to start writing about all the hidden gems in this City of Bridges.

I feel like Mother Nature was favoring us on the day we visited Jamestown, ND. We’d had beautiful sunny days all week, but that morning it rained. And what better way to duck out of the rain than to pop inside a cozy coffee shop in the middle of town?
.
Delicious! Cozy. Imagine what a heaven Babb’s Coffeehouse is when it snows! ☕️

Here I am in Jamestown, North Dakota with the World’s Largest Buffalo! 🦬
Originally designed to draw cars off the highway to stop and take a peek at Jamestown, the town has now become a place to stop for longer than a quick pit stop!
.
When I RV out this way, I’ll be sure to stop at some of the Harvest Hosts in the places in and around Jamestown. The North American Bison Discovery Center is one, which is perfect, since this magnificent photo op is right there, too!

Who’s passing up the World’s Largest Buffalo 🦬 Monument? Not me! We’ve got a larger herd in Custer State Park, SD but none this BIG!
The World’s Largest Buffalo Monument, named Dakota Thunder, is a towering 60-ton concrete sculpture in Jamestown, North Dakota, that has welcomed roadside travelers since 1959. Local art professor and sculptor Elmer Petersen designed and built the giant bison in 1959 with community members and construction workers. City leaders and businessmen commissioned the statue to draw tourists off the newly built Interstate 94. Locals chose the official name “Dakota Thunder” in a 2010 contest with thousands of entries. The anatomically correct structure measures 26 feet tall and 46 feet long, built from sprayed cement over a heavy steel and wire frame.

✨ I hate accounting…but I love a receipt. I’m working on a Pt. 2 with clickable links to each place! (Follow so you don’t miss it.)

🤷‍♀️People don’t always understand what I actually *do* in North Dakota. They don’t get why I’m protective of my summer.

This is it.

Nothing beats a North Dakota summer. We went SO MANY lovely places this summer. (According to my kids the summer had a little *too much* travel…)

But there are still a lot of places I had hoped to go and never made it this year.

Swipe this list of realistic, in-state adventures. They are affordable, fun, family friendly. And I’d repeat them in a heartbeat.

🤷‍♀️ Did NOT think it would end like that!

SO MANY of you told me to try these caramel rolls. Then when I got to @discoverjamestownnd , I found out it’s actually a hot debate.

Depot Cafe supplies @frontiervillagend . But a lot of people are die-hard fans of S&R Truck stop.

⚡️Here’s where my family split

Depot Cafe: @depotcafend

🚂 I liked the thick, super sticky caramel
🚂 They thought it was too sticky
🚂 I really loved the gooey inside
🚂 They thought it was a little too brown

S&R Truck Stop @srtruckplaza

🚚 We all loved the lighter bake
🚚 They preferred the creamy caramel
🚚 They liked its lightness
🚚 I prefer a gooey-er bread

Fina verdict… both amazing.

✨TELL US your preferred North Dakota caramel roll in the comments. Have you had either of these?
