DU Unfiltered Series : Literia di Slvar (Li-tay-rah Di Sil-vuh)

From the Artist : “I have never found myself approaching sketching as a means of arriving at a particular outcome. For me, it is more often a way of thinking without having to immediately put thought into words. There is something about the physical
act of drawing, the movement of the hand, the pressure of the pen, the carbon on the fingers, that allows ideas to develop in a way that feels different than simply attempting to visualise it.

Scribbles, continuous lines, distortions and repetitions become part of this process. I’m interested in the point at which something seemingly random begins to suggest form, emotion or meaning. Sometimes I’ll recognise something in the drawing that I wasn’t consciously trying to create.

A line can describe, suggest, conceal or leave something unresolved. I think that uncertainty is important in terms of manifesting something visually.”

“Coming from a scientific background, I began exploring sketching and painting during the COVID 19 pandemic, simply to visualise and express what was in my own head during a very tumultuous period of time. That eventually led me towards completing an Architecture Undergraduate degree in 2026; throughout this journey, sketching has always remained an entirely spiritual process for me.”

“The discipline of architecture has taught me clarity and intention, while art has given me the freedom to be instinctive and sometimes deliberately unresolved.

Architecture has inevitably influenced the way I sketch, particularly in my awareness of space, proportion, structure and the need for an idea to communicate. At the same time, my artistic practice has allowed me to question those conventions and embrace ambiguity, imperfection and instinct.”

“I’m also drawn to poetry for much the same reason. Both sketching and poetry can communicate something without necessarily explaining it completely.”

“Ultimately, I don’t sketch simply to make something visually interesting. I sketch because the process itself reveals something. Sometimes it clarifies an idea; sometimes it creates one; and occasionally, it leaves me with a question I hadn’t

The great thing about FDM is the incredible variety of skill on display:

@watchmewhip.sl is back to her baked tricks and ready to dazzle us with her signature cakes and bakes - we’re already drooling 🤤

Fresh off his first exhibition @dislvar takes us through a philosophical journey through his monochromatic studies of people and places. Go home with a unique and well-thought out creation 🌿

@sculpt_by_macsha needs no introduction. His work speaks for itself and if you’ve been here before you’ll know his signature upcycled sculptures that speak volumes with ease.

FDM? Yes, please 🫶🏼

Wrapping up an unforgettable year filled with growth and gratitude. To all the amazing volunteers who dedicated their time, thank you for making this experience truly special. A heartfelt shoutout to those who went the extra mile to create fun, engaging, and impactful class activities your creativity brought so much joy and inspiration!

Together, we imagined our community in the future, designed and built street furniture, had fun with origami, flipbooks, weaving, and more. We created art for four senses while making new friends and took trips to inspiring exhibitions.

This journey would not have been possible without the incredible support of everyone who joined hands to make it happen. To our amazing volunteers @aarefa_ali34 , @athif.qasim , @araanay2002 , @thatgirlashi , @avieesen , @dazu_nk , @dhatsha_karth , @dilshani, @_elinag_ , @khadija.zoeb , @krisshannka , @minduperera , @dehansa_.02 , @_piyu_459_ , @prashansa.w , @ruwee_24 , @sathmi, @surendransd , @tammybohoran , @vi.devv_j

Annette, @studio_ak_interior , Ms. Neranjala, and Ms. Pramila your dedication, passion, and teamwork made all the difference.

A special thanks to our inspiring guest teachers @anurikadesilva , @dislvar , @bhathiya_dharmaratne , @charith.wijesundara , @syn_on and our incredible workshop hosts, @pearlprotectors , @saara_nilla @geoffreybawatrust, @365.052.001 Jonathan Edward and @art_kayamai . We are also grateful to @glx_hub for providing the perfect space to exhibit our work and to @johann_peries for taking us to see another inspiring exhibition.

Here’s to the incredible community we’ve built together. Let’s keep spreading positivity and building great things together❤️✨

'ණ is for ණය: Debt'
Akuru Calligraphy 13: ණ' (Na)

The Sinhalese letter "ණ" (ṇa) is the 15th consonant of the Sinhalese alphabet. It is a variant of 2 versions of the sound 'Na': න & ණ, the latter being a retroflex nasal consonant, with a distinctive shape that begins with a loop curve upon itself and then suddenly striking out, followed by another flow to the right Pronounced with the tongue curled back to the roof of the mouth, it produces a resonant sound that deepens pronunciation.

The Sinhalese word "ණය" (naya) means "debt," implying an obligation - something owed, perhaps moral or even financial. Rooted in the Sanskrit "Rna", it is a balance of responsibility and expectation in economy & human relationships.

ණ - Na
