AI Is Getting Smarter. Is Your Protection Keeping Up?

In the age of AI, we need new layers of protection.

Not just for our organizations.
Not just for our data.
But for our families, our identities, and our future.

Here’s what I believe:

The next generation of AI leadership won’t just be defined by who builds the most powerful technology. It will be defined by who builds the most trustworthy systems.

Because innovation without protection isn’t progress. It’s exposure.

We can’t afford to be passive participants in an AI-driven world.

So let me ask you: How are you protecting your organization and your family in the age of AI?

His AI told him not to do it. He did it anyway, to save $5 to $10 a month.

Later, the same AI erased 2.5 years of his students' work, backups included. It took a full day to get it back.

He owned it in public: "This incident was my fault."

What stays with me is the warning. The AI got it right, and nothing made anyone stop and listen.

So I'm curious. Should an AI be able to say no to a risky order, even when a person insists?

Drop your answer below.

Why should billionaires have all the fun with tech?

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s $131.5 million DoorDash settlement, benefiting more than 260,000 delivery workers, shows what happens when we combine data, technology, and the power of organizing. Imagine what unions, nonprofits, and community organizations could accomplish with these same tools. We can’t afford to fear AI while others use technology to build power. It’s time we use it to fight for the causes we believe in. Join our newsletter to learn how. Link in bio.

Who gets the time AI saves at work?

Jeff Bezos thinks some people will end up working three days a week. I'd love that. I also think it won't happen unless someone chooses it.

Watch to the end for what that means if you run a business.

AI’s Greatest Currency Won’t Be Productivity. It’ll Be Trust.

Governor Gavin Newsom just signed the No Bosses Act in California. And here’s what business leaders need to understand.

Just because Washington hasn’t established a comprehensive federal AI framework doesn’t mean your organization can afford to wait.

The question is: Can the people impacted by your AI actually trust it?

You can’t build your entire AI strategy around paying for the biggest, most expensive model every time.

That’s not a strategy.

Organizations need their own AI operating system—a repeatable way for employees, leaders, and teams to decide how AI gets used, where it creates value, and where humans still need to lead.

The future isn’t just about access to intelligence.

It’s about knowing how to orchestrate it.

Learn how to build your AI operating system

The companies and employees who win in this next era will understand how to build an AI operating strategy.

That means knowing:

• When you need a powerful reasoning model—and when you don’t.
• How to give AI the right context instead of just writing better prompts.
• How to integrate AI into everyday workflows, not treat it like some separate magic tool.
• How to choose the right model for the right task without blowing up costs.

Because here’s what nobody wants to talk about:

You can’t build your entire AI strategy around paying for the biggest, most expensive model every time.

A lot of employers jumped the gun. They rolled out AI like a magic switch instead of integrating it into real workflows.

They forgot about the edge cases. The nuance. The relationships. The accountability. The judgment that experienced people bring into the room.

AI can do a lot. In some cases, it can do most of the repetitive work. But it still needs humans who know what matters, what can break, and what trust actually looks like in practice.

Had a lot of fun with this one. But we seriously we do enjoy making AI more accessible and human centric. Though I think this made me look older I just went with it. If you missed the future of creativity session this year @midwestcon_ you missed a lot.

If America wants to lead in AI, we need three things:

1. AI systems that can explain their reasoning and uncertainty.
2. Leaders fluent enough to challenge a confident answer.
3. Real policy and cooperation, including with China, because escalation does not care about party lines.

Too many are focused on if AI will wipe out humans in the apocalypse, but that’s unlikely. The AI apocalypse you should be preparing for is:

The end of your business.
The end of your job.
Or the end of your career as you know it.

I appreciate WLWT and Aaron Thomas covering MidwestCon even if I wouldn’t have chosen the “AI is going to kill us all” headline. 😅

The next five years will be more disruptive than the last 50

We have to decide how we deploy AI in ways that enhance the human experience. That means advancing innovation while building safeguards, creating smart policy frameworks, and reaching a level of cooperation across government, industry, and communities that we simply haven’t seen before.

I’m an optimist.

But I’m a pragmatic optimist.

The future we want isn’t inevitable. We have to envision it, build it, and fight for it.

That’s why we’ve brought policymakers, technology leaders, community leaders, and global thinkers from across the country together here in Ohio.

And @disruptionnowtech Now is helping businesses in the absence of policy guidance to deploy in a way that empower their employees and does so safely.

These conversations about AI shouldn’t only happen in Silicon Valley or Washington.

Ohio can help lead them. And we will.
