Unfortunately, we have been told by law enforcement at 8PM that we cannot continue with tonight’s party - which was a genuine shock and disappointment to us as we have been in constant communication with MPD throughout the week. Several MPD officers looked me in the face and assured that this event would be okay to move forward, and they were actually going to send resources to ensure that it was a safe event tonight

In our conversations this week, the notion of cancelling was not brought up until an hour ago, despite being in constant communication.

We are committed to curating and maintaining spaces for our people to get together safely and continue the traditions we enjoyed growing up. The city clearly had other plans. ‘

All pre-sale tickets will be refunded and we will figure out a path forward - you all have shown us for nearly a decade that you all are riding with us and we are committed to doing the same with you. Thank you again to all of our supporters, vendors, and live acts that were part of this event.

We will continue to share updates as we have them.

The key to a great party is safety!

When chatting about the history of The Pack Party, many interviewees discussed the fact that it has consistently been a safe event where attendees can also be their authentic selves.

This juxtaposition does not always exist when attending certain vents in D.C.

Maintaining our reputation for safety is very important, so we share this as a reminder to those returning, and a message to any first timers… respect the space, respect your peers, lookout for each other and leave the bullshit at home! This is not that.

After announcing the return of The Pack Party, we spent a few weeks in July interviewing 20 community members about their past experiences at the event.

Above are their elevator pitches about why people should come to The Pack Party for the first time.

For the last few months we have been filming what goes into creating this event, from the artwork, to booking talent, to curating an authentic DC experience. We got a chance to follow Brian around in May for the opening weekend of the 2nd annual @anacostiamuralsfest, an event he helped spearhead at the @chbcartgallery to give artists of all levels a chance to paint murals across the city. The second year of the festival already featured 100 artists.

“The Laundromat is a safe space, right? This is the Capital Hills Boys Club. Once a McDonald’s, once a laundromat, here over on 16th and Good Hope Road, now Marion Barry Avenue.

We like to educate the youth. We like to educate the adults on what art is and what art means and how it’s supposed to be done. It’s an artist run space, right? And there’s not a lot of artists run spaces that kind of pour into artists. You always got these… whether it be like rich folk backed spaces or corporate back spaces that kind of have a lot of rules and stipulations. The only rule we got here is to grow.” - @brianbaileyisart

We caught up with her while she was working on her latest mural commissioned by @tonecollaborative and @fh_faunteroycenter

“I feel like DC was such a big part of my development as an artist. And growing up in the neighborhood I did, I was encouraged throughout my life to pursue art continuously.

It’s kind of like continuing to pour into those who poured into me in my younger years or those who pushed me to go to Duke Ellington. DC has been such an important part of why I am an artist in the first place. I feel like it’s also developing its kind of artistic voice as well because I feel there’s a lot more opportunity recently for artists to thrive now than I had seen when I was younger.

I like being a part of that and continuing to kind of build with those around me and in my community.” - @yaytuneday
