POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This past semester has been everything I’ve dreamed of and more. It has been an honor to be a Junior Media and Content Creator Intern for @districtspeaks. Through @twc, I had the opportunity to participate in their academic internship program for the Fall 2024 semester. During my semester in Washington, D.C., I am grateful to have met and conversed with so many fascinating people and have been awarded so many amazing opportunities through this program, growing both personally and professionally.

Through my internship, I had the opportunity to cover events and stories focused in the D.C. area, including @howard1867’s 100th Homecoming: Yard of Fame and the 2024 presidential election. I was also able to interview, network, and connect with notable politicians, journalists, etc., and practice all mediums of journalism, including audio, visual, and print. Furthermore, my articles, photos, and print and visual interviews have been published on @districtspeaks’ website and all its social media platforms.

Through these experiences, I am confident in my skills becoming a much more well-rounded multimedia journalist.

I am grateful to my fellow intern, @rabeh.ramadan, for our collaboration and his support in everything I did throughout our internship. I am also thankful to my supervisor, CEO, & Founder of @districtspeaks, @jonellethepassionista, for giving me the opportunity and trusting me to be a part of her organization.

This internship and my time in D.C. mean so much to me. I will carry the skills I have acquired and apply them to my future internships and jobs!

Also, my last article for @districtspeaks has been published on the districtlyspeaking.com website and is ready to read now! I hope you’ll enjoy it; it’s a special one.

I am incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to cover @howard1867’s 100th Homecoming: Yard of Fame. I am honored that I was able to attend and report on the Lavender Reception, The Yardfest Day 1 (Concert), The Yardfest Day 2 (Reunion), and the Homecoming Football Game. I had the chance to conduct interviews, take pictures and videos of each event’s festivities, and meet many notable faculty, students, and alums who make HU.

Through @districtspeaks, we compiled photographs from homecoming weekend to create a photo series titled “There’s No Place Like Home(Coming): A Century of Legacy at Howard University,” which focuses on the pride and joy of HU’s 100th homecoming.

My colleague, @rabeh.ramadan, and I had the privilege of interviewing and conversing with @jayyy_joness, Howard University Student Association’s first transgender president, at the ninth annual Lavender Reception, which showcased awareness and activism for the LGBTQIA+ community and awarding scholarships to students who advocate for inclusion and justice.

I’m grateful to my colleague Rabeh Ramadan for our teamwork and the making of the photo series and my supervisor @jonellethepassionista for her edits and support throughout covering Howard’s homecoming. The photo series and Jay Jones’ interview are on districtlyspeaking.com and all of Districtly Speaking’s social media platforms. Check it out!

Ever since becoming a citizen of these United States of America, I’ve never missed an election. Why do I vote? Because a people died for me. Because people are fighting with me today. Because our future is waiting for me. Every vote feels like the first time: excitement, responsibility, honor. There is so much power in our vote! Use it.

Day 30: What an amazing 30 days of gratitude!
📅
What have I learned: Smile. Be comfortable in your own skin. Fall in love with the way you were designed. Embrace how you’re wired. Do what you love. Find joy in everything. Wash your hands. Connect with others. Believe in miracles. Trust the process. Pray.
🙌🏾
Seriously, there’s only one YOU. And that was by His perfect design. You and I were fearfully and wonderfully made to do great things. I’m so thankful for this journey and I kinda want to do this again! Will you join me next time?

Day 21: I love bringing all kinds of wonderful people together. I’m thankful for community. I’m forever thinking of ways to bring everybody in the same room. Whether it’s through travel experiences, town halls, family moments, my Girl Scouts, business, my birthday parties — I just love the energy of a good meet-up! Classic extrovert.
.
And yes, people are people and sometimes we’re complicated and a bit much at times. But I still believe there’s magic when we collaborate and have fun together. The funny thing is when I do have moments to myself to refresh, I’m still thinking of ways to bring us all together. I’m just wired to love these kind of gatherings. ❤️
