POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

When I first moved back to Ohio, I got Dad and me season tickets to Playhouse Square's National Tour in Cleveland for their Broadway Series. Mobility quickly became an issue, as did his vertigo. So, we finished out the season and decided not to renew his tickets. For part of his Father's Day and birthday presents this year, I spent a whole lot more money to get better (and easier to access) seats for the Toledo national tour tickets.

They don't have print programs, so here is a photo of us pre-show for "The Bodyguard: The Musical." It's good to get him back out to the theatre!

AMERICANA COSPLAY was a wild, wonderful experience, and I couldn't have asked for more fun, fascinating conversations, master class worthy acting, and commitment in this immersive theatre work.

I am so grateful! If you missed it, here's just a glimpse of the brilliance that we put together.

I may discover a few more photos of @diecast.philly's "Americana Cosplay," but these were all taken by @aleconeill , who has such an incredible eye. I feel like these photos capture so many moments that encapsulate the epic nature of the show. Thank you, Alec, for sharing these with me. 😊

Who will she choose? Only the cards know!

Join us for "Carmen" in a collaboration with Opera Fresca on November 13, 15, 20, & 22. We can't wait to show you this incredible, passionate, and intense gem of opera.

You are all going to have to indulge me, because for the next month and a half to two months, my life is going to be mostly "Carmen."

Ever since I was a cigarette smoking cigarette girl at Toledo Opera in high school, I've wanted to play this role. It's a role that I almost got to play ten years ago, but then the production was canceled. Although the opera is constantly produced, I haven't had the chance to sing it until now. It never left my top ten dream role list. It's so exciting to be able to finally get to work on it and savor the music and the character.

This photo is taken by Julie Smith for Wilmington Concert Opera at Delaware Historical Society. Chris Lorge is Don José.

This is also semi-staged and off-book, so the vast majority of my time is being spent going over and over and over French. Don't worry, though. If you come to see us, you can enjoy the English translation via Jennifer Grackin Steinberg 's supertitles magic.

November 13th & 15th in Wilmington, DE
November 20th & 22nd in Newtown Square, PA

Please come to see me live out this dream!

Today we wanted to share a little of Kirsten's stunning original composition based on the poetry of Alex Posey, highly-acclaimed poet of the Muscogee Nation. This piece was featured in both versions of Americana Cosplay and was always a highlight of the show, be it at the Paine Castle with the @troyfoundrytheatre or the Arch Street Meeting House with @fringearts
More moments from Americana Cosplay coming.

"When will I love you?
Frankly, I don't know,
Maybe never, maybe tomorrow...
But not today, that's for sure!"

Save the dates for "Carmen" with Wilmington Concert Opera and Opera Fresca on November 13, 15, 20, & 22nd!

Excited to announce my solo tenor debut 🤩 This Sunday, October 11th, I will be performing a gratifying program in honor of Indigenous People’s Day. I was graciously invited by Douglas Buchanan and St. David’s episcopal church in Baltimore, MD, to perform the program. Come see the raccoon aria from Jerod Tate’s opera “Loksi’ Shaali’”, a captivating song written by my dear friend Kirsten telling the story of reminiscing on the changing gaze of the land indigenous to the Objibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi peoples and what is modern day Chicago. Music by Andrew Balfour, and more! And Happy Indigenous People’s to all 👏🏼🫶🏼

I have been so busy that I nearly forgot that I had more "Americana Cosplay" photos to post. I have just a few more after these, but here you can see my roommates for this trip, Dana and Griffin, the phenomenal Anthony Crosby, my friend Julie Smith who came to see me perform, the awesome Chris Sannino, some of the best guys I know, and a few more!

I'm headed out for a belated birthday dinner, so it seemed like a good time to take a "This is 46" selfie. If you heard me speak at the @operaamerica Conference this past summer, you heard me say that, among many other things, I will not be apologizing for my age. I'm in my prime, and every year that we survive all that life throws at us should be wildly celebrated.

And yet, it does make me wonder sometimes where the past twenty years or so have gone. At 26, I finished my DMA at University of Michigan, had my final dissertation project acquired by the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian, and was in my first year of navigating life since the passing of my mother. Some might have thought I peaked then. Thank goodness for the Internet to remind me of all that I have accomplished since that time. And yet...although I say it often, I really think I'm just getting started. If only I had multiple lifetimes to take on all of the projects that I would like to accomplish, with the vim and vigor of youth. Alas, we have one life to my immediate knowledge, and I have every intention of making the most of it.

This year my goals are to start worrying less, prioritize things like sleep (which may be the most difficult of all goals for me) and my own health, and staying as present in the moment as possible. Professional and personal goals remain the same - attempt to be awesome at all of my roles, but maybe cut myself a little more slack when I'm not perfect. This won't be a one year goal, more like a lifetime. And that is ok.

So, here I am, officially closer to 50 than 40, and I'm so excited for all the good that is to come. The photo is just me as I am... no filters, no editing, no injections, etc... just me. Why not? I'm doing just fine, and I'm proud of the person I've become.

Happy 46th (a few days later) to me!
