Relaxing, soaking up the surface interval… or just running some serious high-tech pre-dive checks! 🤿✨

Sitting back and enjoying the sun, but with some serious hardware in hand.
On one side, the brilliant Halcyon Symbios Handset—a next-gen, full-color technical dive computer running the Bühlmann ZHL-16C algorithm with wireless integration.
On the other side… well, the design of that surface/GPS tracking unit definitely raises a few eyebrows, but hey: function over form, right? 😅

As long as the signal is strong, the battery is full, it vibrate, and the setup is strictly Doing It Right (DIR)—whether at 30 meters depth or on a sun lounger. ☀️🛜

12 Hours Underwater 💦 620 minutes. 26 metres average depth. 17°C.

This year’s Night of Diving at Rochefontaine quarry was different. For several editions, I have used these 12 hours as conditioning for future deep and highly committed explorations.

This time, however, I wasn’t alone.
Five of my students, freshly certified on IQsub #rebreathers, took turns joining me throughout the night.

Baby food, breathing loop, trim, buoyancy… even watching a few episodes on a phone inside its waterproof housing.

After several hours underwater, every simple task becomes an exercise in control. The cold and mouth discomfort eventually became noticeable. Yet after more than ten hours, neither fatigue nor cold forced me out. I simply ran out of drysuit gas and diluent.

One surface interval in 12 hours.
A 40-minute pit stop, very much in keeping with my motorsport background, before getting back in the water.

But the real achievement wasn’t my dive time.
It was the team taking shape around me.
Six divers in total. Twelve hours. No missed relay.

For the first @iqsub_belgium team participation, we had taken another step towards something much bigger: building a team capable of supporting explorations far beyond the ordinary.

Thank you to @carrierederochefontaine and Thierry for making this possible.
Exploration begins long before you enter the water 💦
