• Rabu, 27 November 2019 | 20.00 WIB

My friends over at Divisi62 just released their project consisting of three audiovisual pieces which delve deep into the roots of the Republic of Indonesia. I myself am highly invested in Indonesian music as you all may know. But what’s equally as important to me if not more, is the cultural significance and history of Indonesia and the links between the colonial history and the countries that have had an impact on that. Here in The Netherlands, where I’m writing this from. You will see stories about Indische families and read books from Indisch descent people. But for those that do not know. In The Netherlands they make a very distinct difference between Indisch and Indonesisch (Indonesian). I’m currently writing a series of articles on this topic aswel as some other very interesting subjects that have to do with the shared colonial history. So for now please enjoy these beautiful pieces by Uwalmassa. You can find the link to the full versions on jiwajiwa.com “The following video by DIVISI62 and Project Tirai is an audiovisual interpretation of the Indonesian revolution from the viewpoint of the Antara News Agency and its Japanese predecessor, Domei News Agency. Divided into three movements, this 25-minute live performance by Uwalmassa utilized recordings of significant radio broadcasts from that period as compositional tools in the music. The recordings that were used include the reading of the Proclamation of Independence text by President Soekarno, the speech of surrender by Emperor Hirohito of Japan, and Soekarno speaking about democracy in Dutch.” #jiwajiwa #uwalmassa #divisi62 #sharedhistory #colonialhistory
