Written by @diya404 Akka:

The ancient Kavuthwams, hidden for many years while the Companies (Dutch, French, British) began trying to suppress all Indian culture over a couple hundred years, are now seen in different versions across stages globally… well they were first debuted on stage by mom, trained meticulously directed by Kuppiah Thatha along with some other rare numbers he taught her. Thatha’s Bhairavi Thaana varnam (Viriboni) took one year to properly learn in the pristine ancient style is only still performed by mom (and I). And Mahalingam Saar worked with mom on small details and subtle expressions to train and refine mom’s approach to the famed Padari Varugudu. All of this is found in print in this old Times of India article from early 1960s.

At 85 Sudha Aunty still always shares with everyone that she is the student of the great Nattuvanar family of @srrbnkmthanjavurparampara and there is never a performance or presentation where she does not honor their names. In every HTR Arangetram their photo presides over the festivities in the sacred altar and all dancers must seek their blessings. No matter how great you become you should never forget where you came from and who shaped your path. This dance art is a gift to all of us and should always be practiced with humility and respect to those who shared it with us. 🙏🙏🙏

What joy! The inaugural #bhaktibhajanbeats at the anniversary celebrations of the @omhccma in Billerica Mass was an ocean of love from start to finish. Getting to participate alongside brilliant musicians like @sudssub @pranavswaroopbn and more was an honor. Credits to @thehindugrandma for hosting and organizing and being the primary source of energy in the room for the whole night!

This Bhajan is really special to me because I grew up hearing our Guruji Swami Haridhos Giri (Swami Gnanananda disciple) singing this in our home. In fact Guruji was the one who named me because they were conducting the Radha Kalyanam Puja in our home the day I was born. Then this song was sung gorgeously by my eldest sister @diya404 @gopalven and my amazing mother @sudhamini for my middle sister Anjali’s Arangetram just one year after my father passed away. Finally I was able to choreograph it for my beautiful dance student @_reeyaw’s Arangetram a few years back where it was rendered with pure devotion by @krithika_rajkumar with @akshaya614 ‘s support on violin - again that family connection! I was grateful to share it in a room full of generous spirits last night.
