I can’t believe it’s been 11 years since I did the Photo Booth at @avl.halloween.cover.show. These are from 2015, from Toy Boat (RIP), when it first opened. It was such a great time.

Disability Pride Month was so great. I was happy to see more people acknowledging that it even existed. Having a disability can make life hard, especially when we have not given very much thought to including disabled people into the mainstream. This is why Pride exists. It is to celebrate that we are here, out in the open, ready to take part in whatever our communities have to offer.

That’s why it was such an honor to be a part of the Disability Pride Parade that @openheartsartcenter put together. Nothing makes you prouder than being in a parade with the disabled people in your community, telling your community, “Hey, we are here. Come celebrate with us as we let everyone else know.”

WOW! Wow, wow, wow! Our 2nd Annual Open Hearts Art Center Disability Pride Parade was an absolute BLAST! Asheville showed up! 🎉❤️💛🤍💙💚🖤

What an incredible celebration of disability pride and awareness, but also of joy, hope, love, inclusion, and a whole lot of FUN! We cannot wait to continue making this a yearly tradition with every single one of you.

Thank you so much to everyone who showed up to cheer, walk, ride, wheel, dance and parade proudly alongside us today! And a huge thank you to everyone who celebrated from afar by sharing our posts and helping spread the word.

I wanted to share this podcast that tells an amazing story from Disabilty Rights History that to be quite honest would make great movie but also talks about threats that will take away rights of disabled people to live independently in their communities. We, meaning everyone, cannot let this happen. Why? Because disability is part of being a human.
