Artist Biography:
Wided Hasnaoui is a Tunisian-born visual artist based in Ottawa, Canada. Her practice is rooted in a lifelong fascination with light, colour, nature, memory and cultural heritage. She began structured studies in drawing and painting in 2012 at the Russian Centre for Science and Culture in Tunis and continued developing her practice through several artistic communities. After settling in Canada, she joined the Ottawa School of Art to further develop her artistic practice and engage with Ottawa’s vibrant arts community.

Working primarily in oil on canvas, while also exploring acrylic and watercolour, Wided moves between four interconnected bodies of work: Nature in Motion, Cities and Heritage, Free Expression, and Souls in Motion. Her paintings revisit Tunisian and Mediterranean landscapes, archaeological sites and historic cities, while other works explore flowers, water, movement and abstract inner worlds. Across these subjects, light serves as both a visual structure and an emotional language.

Her work has been presented in group exhibitions in Tunis, La Marsa and the Medina of Tunis. Now establishing her practice in Ottawa, she seeks to create new conversations between Tunisia and Canada through exhibitions, community engagement and painting workshops.
