Join us for a special brunch fundraiser benefiting The Animal Retreat (formerly Meridian Canine Rescue) and Green Heart Rescue - two local organizations dedicated to giving dogs who are often overlooked a second chance at finding loving, forever homes. The Animal Retreat also operates EPIC (Empowering People, Inspiring Canines), a unique partnership with the Idaho Department of Corrections that provides inmate handlers with the opportunity to train at-risk shelter dogs, helping prepare them for successful adoption while creating meaningful opportunities for both people and pets. Two years ago this goddess, Luna, was an entirely different dog. When I came across her photo randomly on TikTok I wasn’t looking to adopt another dog. But that changed the minute I saw her photo, looking scared, shy, and lost among the hundreds of dogs in a Houston TX shelter. Her post had over 6K views, 600 comments, and no adopters. I saw her…and knew this was my next dog. Five days later (and the day before her scheduled euthanasia) with the help from amazing shelter networkers @rescuedogarmy, rescues like @carolinadogsmatter, my vet @habitatvetboise (this dog was heart worm positive) and my family, I was in that Houston shelter, walking back to find this dog, to adopt her and drive her back to Boise. ❤️Ever since then, I’m able to stop scrolling past footage of shelter dogs and I pause to read their name and make a comment to help the algorithm, in hope that someone else will see that dog and latch on. Yes, it’s SO sad and heartbreaking to see those photos and videos online, and I do get mad and cry sometimes, but ignoring the posts doesn’t help. I’ve been doing what I can to support some of shelter dogs I see, donate when I can, and help the rescues that can set them free into loving homes. I’m heading up a fundraiser on Oct 10th, partnering with The Boardwalk in Garden City, Ground Rules Restaurant, Spitfire Tacos and Tequila, and the Co-Op Pet Shop,for two local animal rescues that help the animals who get passed over in the crowded shelters. Join us for brunch bites, mimosas, music, a great raffle, dog swag, vendor booths, pet photos, and fun - to help make success stories for shelter dogs, just like Luna! ❤️

I turned 50 yesterday…. YUP! I said it… 50! The past 365 days hit different. I knew it was coming… and I was looking forward to it. I went to the hospital last week with some pressure and pain in my chest. They said it was possible dehydration… I felt like it was stress. The struggles, the challenges, the changes, the decisions, the choices, the reflection and growth is daily. I wrapped up my 26th year of teaching last month. That felt good. I wrapped up another album with @djjasond (coming soon) this month. We feel good about it (excited actually). Yesterday I DJ’d a wedding @thelivelyboise and all the employees wished me happy birthday one at a time and the wedding party paused to sing to me. That felt good. I laced up the kicks today and hooped (until my knees started hurting). I still felt good. I’m 24,000 jumps over my 50,000 monthly jump goal with two days to go. That feels good. Last week was Father’s Day. My kids are happy! That feels good. Next week is my 18th wedding anniversary. We’re happy. That feels good.
