🔈 Cannes Lions takes place 22-26 June.

One of the main reasons I attend Cannes Lions is to step away from the yachting world to be stimulated with fresh perspectives and new solutions from global brands relating to branding, creativity, marketing, and adtech.

The yachting industry falls behind other industries regarding utilising technology and out-of-the-box creativity. We need to look at sports, cosmetics, art, media, music, science, and tech because we are WAY behind with engaging our customers and making yachting interesting and memorable.

Every interaction I have with some brands during Cannes Lions is a data touchpoint too - how many yachting brands are tracking thousands (sometimes millions) of touch points to follow-up with their prospects, yet alone using data for smarter decision-making about engagement and customer behaviour ?

I respect that speakers at Lions share their career growth alongside their failures - I loved Es Devlin’s chat last year saying you have to get comfortable with crappy ideas among the great ideas. ❤️ As a creative or marketing professional, you absolutely have to face setbacks, rejection and disappointment amidst the triumphs.

Lions also highlights how progressive other industries are compared to yachting regarding diversity and truly understanding representation in advertising, media, speaker panels and customer targeting. I mean LIGHT YEARS ahead. Most importantly, sessions talking about diversity, equality and inclusion actually have panelists representing those very groups. 🎯

I’m ready for Cannes Lions 2026 - bring it on!

🛥 FOUR SEASONS I — 207m | when lighting becomes part of the architecture ✨

Built by Fincantieri in Ancona, Four Seasons I is a 207-metre ultra-luxury vessel operating at the intersection of yacht design and hospitality architecture.

🌙 Night mode: a completely different vessel

What changes after sunset is not cosmetic — it is perception engineering.

At night, Four Seasons I shifts from architectural volume to visual structure.

🔹 1. Lighting as structural definition

The exterior lighting is not uniform decorative illumination.

It is applied in layers:

* horizontal deck lines are selectively traced
* vertical volumes are softened
* key structural edges are emphasised, not filled

📌 Result:
The ship reads as a stacked architectural composition, not a single mass.

🔹 2. Controlled contrast instead of full brightness

Unlike many cruise vessels that rely on high-intensity lighting, here the approach is different:

* reduced glare on upper decks
* darker negative spaces between illuminated zones
* contrast used to “cut” volume visually

👉 This creates depth perception even at distance.

🔹 3. Water reflection as part of design

At night, the hull becomes secondary.

What dominates is:

* reflected deck lighting on the sea surface
* soft motion distortion of light patterns
* mirrored symmetry beneath the vessel

📌 The environment becomes part of the lighting system.

🔹 4. Spatial hierarchy becomes visible

Daytime = circulation and layout logic
Nighttime = hierarchy of spaces

You can visually identify:

* guest zones (warmer tones, softer light)
* service/technical layers (reduced visibility)
* circulation decks (linear light paths)

👉 Lighting reveals operational logic.

At full night mode, the vessel loses its mass perception.

What remains:

* silhouette
* light geometry
* vertical stacking

📌 The result is closer to an illuminated residential structure at sea than a ship.
