• @thinkshorts The Four Walls of Charlotte Moreland (2021)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Written and directed by Joe Benedetto and Alison Stover, ‘The Four Walls of Charlotte Moreland’ is a short drama film that explores one women’s path to recovery following an abusive relationship. Based on the real-life story of Alison Stover (Writer/Star), the film showcases themes of mental health, identity, rape, sociopathic behavior, female empowerment and hope. Alison Stover delivers a poignant performance as Charlotte – a portrayal that will resonate with many victims/survivors. A deeply personal film made with the intent to raise awareness and give a voice to those who don’t.

The 22-minute film opens with a distressed Charlotte in the shower – recollecting the psychopathic voice-messages from her ex. Charlotte has confined herself at home, in fear of what the outdoor world may bring. With her career in the balance, due to prolonged absence, her employer pleads for her return to work – albeit with forthright and insensitivity. Charlotte seeks refuge in her therapist (Dr. Sandri) in an attempt to restore her lost identity. Despite relentless stalking from her ex, strangers sharing their own personal hardships rewards her with the power of hope. The film concludes with a reawakened soul.

High praise to Aliston Stover, a captivating performance throughout that is certain to touch the heart of the viewer. Joe Benedetto and Stover have created an outstanding drama that bravely exposes the destruction of character post-abuse. A gripping narrative from the get-go. The film doesn’t shy away from showcasing the characters extreme mental anguish – that alone should be applauded. Cinematography is of an exceptional professional standard, coupled with high quality sound and post-production. A riveting watch, albeit sobering. Highly recommended.
