At Acoustickle we try our best to bring you the most talented emerging artists coming out of the Nottingham music scene, but there is plenty of work that goes on in the background to make that even possible

Thank you to Angelena for sharing her perspective and, as she said, we have plenty of exciting things coming for you guys soon😁💖

Let us know in the comments if you’re looking forward to what we have to come and we’ll send you the link to our mailing list to be the first to hear about it!

1. Less is more
When you start out you think you need to prove yourself by doing lots of cool mixing techniques and tricks. However, good DJs often do less, allowing tracks to breathe, rather than constantly using effects and over-mixing. The crowd wants to hear the songs and are not that bothered about your technique.

2. Master Phrasing
Understand that music is built in phrases (usually 4, 8, or 16 bars depending on the genre). Dropping a new track in at the wrong time sounds bad, no matter how well matched the beats are.

3. Song Selection is 98% of the Job
The best transitions in the world cannot save a boring song selection. Focus on finding great music rather than just fancy mixing techniques. You can do a bad mix but as long as the next song is a banger…the crowd will forget in no time.

So new DJs, make sure you focus on the track selection more than anything!

What advice would you give to new DJs? Let me know in the comments!
