Textiles, tailoring, and surface are never far from JAR. Long before the jewels, there was a needlepoint studio on the rue de l’Université, opened in 1973, where colour, shading, and floral composition were treated like painting in thread. Though the shop was brief, the language it developed was lasting. Pavé becomes embroidery, micro pavé reads like beadwork, and sculpted settings behave like folded fabric. Many JAR jewels feel less constructed than stitched, built through tone, density, and relief rather than relying on size and sparkle.

Interior designer Alidad's exquisite London flat: in the drawing room, a 17th-century Flemish tapestry, thought to depict Brutus killing Caesar, hangs between vertical mouldings inset with mirrors. The glass-topped gilded bronze coffee table is by the Belgian artist Paula Swinnen. A watercolour by the Russian avant-garde painter and designer Natalia Goncharova hangs on the door.
