Before it became history, it was one woman’s decision.

CONSCIENCE, the Los Angeles premiere of Joe DiPietro’s acclaimed play, brings Senator Margaret Chase Smith’s historic stand against Joseph McCarthy to life with humor, tension, and humanity.

On June 1st, 1950, trailblazing Senator Margaret Chase Smith (R-ME) was the first senator to publicly rebuke Senator Joseph McCarthy, (R-WI) who rose to power using anti-Communist hysteria, mendacity, and fear-mongering, ruining the lives of many who opposed him.

It’s an honor and blessing to play Senator Margaret Chase Smith, as she challenges Sen. Joe McCarthy during the Red Scare in the ’50’s.
Directed by I.C.T. Artistic Director Caryn Desai, and co-starring Jon Root as Sen. Joe McCarthy, Dylan Wittrock as William C. Lewis, Jr., and Hollis Dohr as Jean Kerr, this show is a JOY.
THANK YOU, Caryn, playwright Joe DiPietro, family, friends, and
Casting Directors Michael Donovan and Richie Ferris for this extraordinary experience.

A ‘lil BTS from @criminalminds Season 19, Episode 7 “The Furies”! Our incredible cast, director Zach Gilford, writer @jaynearcher & EP Chris Barbour. Working with @kirstenvangsness & @cara.jade.myers went beyond the page—that deep, feminine intimacy was felt in every scene thanks to such a powerful script & shared experiences.
A special thank you to @whitneyhg for dressing Cara & I in our wildest Thelma & Louise fantasies & @newbornglow_beauty who made me feel so beautiful, even while tears & snot streamed down my face. Plus my man Tom Elliott! Always a pleasure to do my own stunts.

There are characters you can relate to, and then there are ones so deeply connected to you that your only job is to show up with authenticity and vulnerability in order to tell their stories. When I got the call to play Maria Abaté in Season 19, Episode 7 “The Furies” of @criminalminds, I felt a deep honor and responsibility not only to a show as legendary as this one, but to the volume of women this story applies to. Subject matter involving s*xual violence is impossibly hard to comprehend, and yet it is imperative for me, as an artist, to bring a voice to the voiceless in any way I can. And like Maria, a story like this is all too close to home.
My deepest gratitude to show runner Erica Messer, for believing in me. Director Zach Gilford for trusting me. The entire cast/crew for the joy that permeated amidst dark subject matter. My ride or die @cara.jade.myers, for being the best co-pilot to tell this story with. But most importantly @jaynearcher, for writing a character and a story that reminded me why I ever wanted to act in the first place. On behalf of all women, all survivors, and of course, on behalf of Maria, thank you. Your bravery and fearlessness as a writer allowed me to show up and do the same.

Streaming now on @paramountplus!
More to come, but here’s a sneak peek. For those this story applies to, I love you. Keep f*cking going.
