Drivers assembled at the base of the Mount Equinox Skyline Drive, preparing to ascend its 5.2 miles — the longest privately owned paved toll road in the United States.

Targa Verde guests motored upward through breathtaking scenery, emerging at the summit above the clouds.

The morning rally carried us from the club to Mt. Equinox, winding through the finest twisties the Green Mountains had to offer.

Another time travel to last week.

Sunday was a ride up to Millbrook to join the brotherhood of the @hudson_valley_drivers_club. As usual we discussed all of life, picked a gorgeous route up to the Farmer’s Wife and then down to the Cathedral @hayfieldsmarket for a further jaw wag and a proper Sunday stroll.

Then on Wednesday, I took the Emira for a quick rip up the Palisades to walk around mt first @bearmountaincarcruise for the season. As usual the variety was wide and the passion evident. I’ve always loved this show because of the complete lack of ego and the clear joy present in just bringing your car as long as it is loved.

The weather on both days was perfect. One was full of company and the other was a solo stroll through history. Both were perfect.

TV • 01 • Day Two // Stage One: Cars & Coffee + Driver Meeting

Saturday morning, guests reconvened at the club to begin Day Two of the inaugural Targa Verde.

The day opened with Cars & Coffee at the club, followed by a drivers’ meeting to prepare for the rally and hill climb ahead.

The motoring adventures were about to begin — and the anticipation was electric.

One week ago today, our guests and their machines graced the lawn of the Hermitage Club, at the foot of Haystack Mountain, for the first day of our inaugural two-day Targa Verde.

Looking back, we find ourselves both humbled and inspired.

The Targa Verde TV01

This past weekend I was invited by @mizwa_964 and the @targaverde to a very unique gathering. 53 cars in Southern Vermont. Many drives. A concourse. A hill climb and much rowdiness in between.

The cars were a wonderful mix of classic and modern drivers. Cars meant to be enjoyed on the perfect summer-kissed roads of this lush mountain-heavy state redolent with maple syrup and long winding sweepers.

On the way up I spent one of the most amazing 8 hours with @dlloyds18 and @nein_six_four exploring some of the best roads in the North East fighting through biblical rain and forested gravel to reach @hermitageclub, the hub for this merry band.

The next day we assembled on the lawns of the club for a dappled afternoon of chat and merriment followed by a sunset rip redolent of pine and gasoline.

The next morning we met and decamped to the foot of Mt Equinox. The only access road is owned by Carthusian monks. A unique and verdant and extremely steep runway to 4-7 minutes of pure adrenaline. I need to do that again. Maybe more than once.

We then did a group ride down to @eatathoneypie and scarfed a monstrously good burger while enjoying bear tourism.

After that we headed home. Full and satiated.

While the roads and the cars were brilliant, the people were the star of the event. A brilliant band of misfits and rogues. Assembled carefully and a fitting first group to kick off what should be a glorious annual event.
