Very long day.
6 fights in Gi and No Gi.
Every victory is so much more than just a medal.

It’s “I’m strong“, “I can do this”, “I’m proud of myself.”

It’s about her strength, confidence, her focus, and her ability to protect herself.

Every single time she steps onto the mat, it’s already a victory. The medals are just a bonus)

So many friends, so many emotions and memories. Putting her in jiu-jitsu was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

When I was 14, I went through physical and sexual abuse. Back then, I remember thinking that if I ever had a daughter, and someone decided to lay a hand on her, she needed to know how to stop that hand. and break it. if she had to.

Sonya once had to fight off three boys who decided to attack her near her school. She didn’t just defend herself, they ran away crying.

That’s my girl.

My pride. ❤️

This one is for the kids ☝🏻🫶🏻🥋

If the world was ruled by the young at heart, we would see a lot more kindness and probably popsicles 😅

These kids fought with their soul and also held onto their genuine innocence after. I saw a submission, a hand raised and the winner checking on their opponent with a hug and a shoulder lean 🫂

I saw a girl leave mid match out of stress followed by her opponent bringing her back to the mat after a reassuring connection that wasn’t through words 🥹

I saw a child sit down on the floor after losing in tears followed by his opponent sitting next to him with a hand on his shoulder 🤲🏻

Victory in life isn’t counted by the gold, it’s counted by the golden moments 💛

For the kids on Saturday, well done, to each and every one of you! May you carry that resilience and compassion into adulthood 🥰

Much gratitude for @grapplingindustries for hosting a smooth competition where we saw almost 700 athletes and everyone was walking out in time for their dinner plans 🤜🏻🤛🏻
