One voice a day keeps demolition away. We are counting down until the demolition of SoZa — the iconic Ministry of Social Affairs in The Hague, designed by Herman Hertzberger, completed in 1990 — is stopped. Every day, we give the floor to one voice. Today: a global voice at the intersection of modern heritage and technology Uta Pottgiesser is an architect, Professor of Heritage & Technology at TUDelft, and chair of DOCOMOMO International — the leading global organisation dedicated to the documentation and conservation of the Modern Movement’s built legacy. For her, SoZa is a proof of concept for sustainability. Why demolish what already works? Update: In only 46 days, thanks to many of you, we have reached 4219 signatures! If you have not yet signed, please do. Feel free to share. Be part of history, help us change SOZA’s future. Help us reach a number that the ministers cannot ignore! Sign the petition: link at bio Tips: When signing the petition on Change.org — no donation or sharing is needed. You can decline if asked. Very important: you will receive a confirmation email; please validate your signature, or it will not count. Curious for the voice of tomorrow? Follow for more! #savesoza #stopdemolition #renovationfirst #heritage

At the ALMA 1st International Conference organized by DoCoMoMo Albania (4–6 June, Tirana), Fabio Toska and Eneida Firaku presented the architectural documentation and historical investigation of an unusual fortification located near the mouth of the Vjosa River, close to the village of Mifol. Distinguished by its architecture, north-facing combat orientation and uncertain chronology, the structure has no close parallel among known fortifications in Albania. The study explores possible connections to both the dictatorship-era bunkerization program and the military landscape of the First World War, while highlighting the need for further research into this enigmatic structure and the broader historical significance of the Lower Vjosa Basin. Special thanks to @docomomo_al for this opportunity. Aerial photographs: @anastasi_kris *(7th photo is extracted from the movie “Kur zbardhi një ditë”, produced in 1971 by Pirro Milkani.)

…… Tonight, join us for a special screening of “Kryeqyteti Ynë” (1976) as part of ALMA 2026, the first International Conference of DoCoMoMo Albania. Produced during Albania’s socialist period, the film offers a rare cinematic portrait of Tirana, documenting the capital’s urban transformation, monumental architecture, and everyday life through the lens of 1970s state filmmaking. The screening will start with a short introduction by Elian Tanini (AQSHF) and Gjergji Islami (DoCoMoMo Albania), followed by a discussion reflecting on memory, modernist heritage, and the representation of the city in film.
