„The three works shown here explore different conditions through which the relationship between reality, imagination, and knowledge is destabilised.
The Unscripted Horror (Of A Grown Man) depicts a man in a moment of vulnerability, confronted by a figure whose presence is implied yet visually withheld. The man’s bodily unease suggests a menacing presence, while the imbalance of visibility preserves a degree of narrative ambiguity.
To Pet And To Let Go draws on the figure of the Nachtmahr, a supernatural being rooted in Germanic folklore, traditionally depicted sitting on the sleeper’s chest and inducing nightmares. In Ditlev Blunck’s painting Mareridt (1846), the Nachtmahr assumes a chimeric form, conflating the head of a hare, a human torso, and a feline tail. Henry’s rendition recalls this hybrid figure, shifting the focus from the scene of the nightmare to the creature itself. Seemingly innocuous, at times uncannily seductive, yet shadowed by its demonic associations, the figure resists a fixed affective valence, embodying the duality of desire and dread that characterises the oneiric.

In Levania Lullaby, the figure sleeps in the light of day. The proximity of his resting body to the lunar imagery in the book open before him relates the act of study to the space of dreaming, pointing towards the productive potential of dreams. What enters the subconscious throughout life is reconfigured within the dream realm, later resurfacing in worlds constructed, fictional or otherwise.

skia (2026) – Sound Biesenthal

Skia is Ancient Greek for “shadow”. In the cellar of Art Biesenthal, glowing bodies – the Phantoms – hang from motors in the vaulted ceiling. A radar sensor registers who enters the room and how they move. Step closer and the Phantoms withdraw. Stand still and watch, and they rise and begin to explore the space.

The shadows on the brick walls are never the same twice. What you see depends on where you stand – and on the fact that you are there at all. skia picks up Plato’s cave: we only ever know the shadows. But here the viewer is part of the apparatus. Whoever looks changes the picture. Or, with Donna Haraway: there is no view from nowhere – all knowledge is situated, partial and bound to a body in a place.

Skia ist Altgriechisch für „Schatten“. Im Keller von Art Biesenthal hängen leuchtende Körper – die Phantoms – an Motoren im Gewölbe. Ein Radarsensor erfasst, wer den Raum betritt und wie er sich bewegt. Wer näher kommt, vor dem ziehen sie sich zurück. Wer stehen bleibt und schaut, für den steigen sie auf und beginnen, den Raum zu erkunden.

Die Schatten auf den Ziegelwänden sind nie zweimal gleich. Was man sieht, hängt davon ab, wo man steht – und davon, dass man überhaupt da ist. skia greift Platons Höhle auf: Wir kennen immer nur die Schatten. Hier aber gehört die Betrachterin selbst zur Versuchsanordnung. Wer hinschaut, verändert das Bild. Oder mit Donna Haraway: Es gibt keinen Blick von nirgendwo – jedes Wissen ist situiert, partiell und an einen Körper an einem Ort gebunden.

STUDIOLO, Milan

Studiolo is a Milan-based gallery founded in 2015 - following five years of non-profit activity - with a strong focus on scouting emerging artists, both Italian and international, and supporting a carefully selected group of them throughout their growth within the contemporary art system. With a particular focus on painting and installation, Studiolo has produced more than sixty exhibitions to date, including solo shows, group shows, residencies, and special projects, both in the gallery and through off-site projects. Over the years, more than 140 artists have been involved, several of whom presented by Studiolo at a very early stage in their careers - through their first or among their first exhibitions - and have since gone on to establish a significant presence within the professional contemporary art scene

In 2025, Studiolo founded "Coucou", a contemporary art platform - nomadic, truly independent, and unpredictable a - conceived, quite literally, to “pop up” with its projects during some of the major European events connected to the art system, as well as independently of them. Coucou brings together visions, languages, and friends of contemporary art, creating opportunities for exchange beyond the usual logics and structures of the system

Two eras, one breath. 🏛️🌫️
The Wehrmühle — a 19th-century water mill nestled in the green heart of Brandenburg — sits alongside its striking Bauhaus-style villa, facing the same park.
Here, SOUND BIESENTHAL 2026 unfolded: an exhibition curated by Domenico Positano and Tjioe Meyer Hecken (August 1–30), where sound became matter, space, memory. Among the woods, environmental installations, performances and artistic walks turned the landscape itself into part of the work.

The nomadic, independent, collaborative and unpredictable contemporary art platform, back to Paris, in the Marais, from Monday October 19 to Friday 23, 2026

Alongside Milan-based galleries @cabinet_studiolo and @castiglioni___ , both returning from previous editions, this year Coucou welcomes two brilliant international projects: one curated by Berlin-based @dodopositano , the other presented by London’s @_aliceamati Gallery

For the first time, the five-day programme will also include a series of performances and other events, reflecting Coucou’s openness to different fields of practice - from performance and sound art to club culture, poetry and independent publishing

Informal and interdisciplinary by nature, Coucou seeks to reconnect with the authenticity of the artistic gesture, meaningful collaborative practices freed from exclusively market-driven dynamics and the fundamental importance of exchange, dialogue and cross-disciplinary interaction

Our dear bunny is still chilling with its inseparable carrot… but getting impatient, checking the clock more and more often, and looking forward to sharing much more with you very soon
