Dogstar is turning one year old.

Thank you to our team, our guests, our suppliers, our neighbours and everyone in Leith who has backed us from day one. In twelve months we’ve been listed in the Michelin Guide, placed 51st in the National Restaurant Awards Top 100 and been shortlisted for Food and Travel’s Restaurant of the Year: Newcomer. We’re proud of that. We’re prouder of the people who got us there.

So come and celebrate with us. Sunday 1 November, 12pm–7pm. It’s not ticketed. If you’re a regular, a supplier, a local business or a mate, just come by for a boogie.

Chrissy G on the wheels of steel. Top-tier smash burgers from Alby's (@bighotsandwiches). Seasonal drinks from our team. Dogstar 1st birthday - 01/11/26, 12–7pm at 17 Portland Place; DJ Chrissy G, Smash Burgers and seasonal drinks.

Despite all the exciting new restaurants to try in Edinburgh, there are still some dishes that just have a chokehold on me! Here are the restaurants with dishes I can’t stop thinking about:

1. @notoedinburgh
2. @ardfern_edinburgh
3. @cafe_pomelo
4. @barryfishrestaurant
5. @kapaofeeds
6. @eleanore_leithwalk
7. @dulseseafood
8. @dogstarleith
9. @mirinleith
10. @whitehorseoysterbar

🌾 Gluten friendliness: all of these spots are coeliac husband approved except Pomelo and Mirin, which has updated its allergen menu and guidance since our last visit.

📌 Save this as inspo for your next memorable meal in Edinburgh!
💌 Send this to someone who should try one of these dishes with you!

I asked the team at @dogstarleith , one of Edinburgh’s hottest restaurants, where they actually eat and drink when they’re off the clock… 👀🍷

📌 SAVE this for your next Edinburgh trip. These are the places the people working in hospitality actually recommend.

If you’re new here, welcome to The Little Black Book, my series where I get my hands on the recommendations of chefs, bartenders, sommeliers and the people behind some of my favourite restaurants.

The deal is simple.

They tell me where they actually spend their time (and money) when they’re off the clock.

I work my way through their recommendations.

And the places I genuinely love earn a spot in my own Little Black Book.

For episode two, we’re heading to Leith, where the team at Dogstar have handed over their recommendations, and they’ve certainly understood the assignment. 👀

We’re talking breakfast bao buns, one of Edinburgh’s cheapest lunches, brilliant neighbourhood restaurants, a favourite spot for drinks and a few places that have been sitting on my own list for far too long.

Some familiar favourites, a few surprises and even somewhere they’re desperate to try themselves.

Swipe through to get your hands on the Dogstar team’s Little Black Book. ➡️

Now I want to know… whose Little Black Book should I get my hands on next?

Tag an Edinburgh chef, bartender, restaurant or hospitality favourite whose recommendations you’d love to see. 👇

Number one restaurant in the country!

It’s such an honour to have anyone spend this much time thinking about what you do, and to really see all the detail, and appreciate the intentionality in all we do (and don’t do).

Restaurant cooking- in fact, any creative act I’d say- is never about one person or a solo hero vision. We’re all influenced by everything and everyone around us, and we’re all the richer when we see and acknowledge that too. Rob and I are so lucky to have so many skilled and committed people contributing to @inverrestaurant - from fellow chefs in the kitchen and storytelling servers out front; to the growers, farmers and catchers of vegetables, shellfish, game and meat animals, to those folks making and finding the good stuff for us to pour.

Delighted to be sharing such an illustrious list with so many good friends and great colleagues! What a country we make.

So much gratitude to @chitgrrlwriter and @thetimes for seeing it all, from us all.

🙏🏻♥️
