What does it mean to call a place home as it transforms around you?

In this interview, Dolphin Square tenant Alan Garwood reflects on 15 years of living in this iconic 1930s building, sharing his experience of life during its refurbishment and how the spaces have evolved.

Refurbished by GRID Architects, Dolphin Square is a story of renewal, one that honours the character of the existing building while reimagining it for contemporary living.

Through Alan’s perspective, we’re reminded that architecture is not just about transforming spaces, but about the lives, memories and everyday moments that make them home.

For the regeneration of the Dolphin Square entrance lobby, GRID has reinterpreted the existing facade and its relationship with the interior to create a more permeable and integrated threshold.

In this video, GRIDs Senior Associate Jan Pratt discusses how the design brings together facade retention, social interaction and spatial connectivity to create a considered and successful entrance experience.

The approach balances the character of the existing building with a renewed sense of openness, creating a stronger connection between the entrance, the public realm and the spaces beyond.

This week Ilaria, our Head of Interiors, takes us behind the design of the newly regenerated lobby at Dolphin Square, a considered interior concept that celebrates the building’s heritage while bringing a fresh, contemporary character to the space.

From materiality and colour to the finer details, every element has been thoughtfully designed to create a welcoming sense of arrival and reconnect the lobby with the spirit of its 1930s architecture.

Watch Ilaria talk us through the thinking behind the transformation.
