First of all, a huge thank you to @don_peachy for giving me this opportunity and trusting me to be part of something special. I genuinely appreciate the chance to share my passion for mixology, connect with amazing people, and represent our beverage culture.

A very special thank you to @amila_harsha and @benchandbartend for all the support throughout those days. And to the entire Smoke & Bitters team ,you guys are absolutely incredible!

Your hospitality, positive energy, teamwork, and genuine friendliness made this experience truly memorable. ❤️

Honestly, the level of hospitality I experienced here was something special. I’ve experienced hospitality in five-star hotels, but the warmth, personal connection, and genuine care shown by this team went beyond what many star-rated hotels manage to deliver. Hospitality isn’t just about stars or luxury; it’s about how you make people feel, and this team absolutely nailed it.

Beyond the cocktails, techniques, and creativity behind the bar, it’s the people who make an experience unforgettable. I’m leaving with great memories, new connections, and even more respect for what you guys do.

SRI LANKA HAS MORE THAN ONE STORY TO TELL ABOUT BARS
Today, Smoke & Bitters has been recognised again on the World’s 50 Best Bars 51–100 list, for the third time.

We are proud to be the only Sri Lankan bar on this year’s list.
But for us, the more exciting story is what is happening within and beyond our own four walls.

When we opened Smoke & Bitters six years ago, there wasn’t much of a global conversation about Sri Lankan bars. Today, Sri Lankan bartenders and bars are increasingly being recognised on international stages, and we’re proud to have played a small part in helping that happen.

Through Sunset Shifts and Voyagers series we’ve welcomed some of the world’s leading bars to Hiriketiya and taken our own bartenders and chefs around the world. We’ve shared knowledge, created collaborations, hosted masterclasses and helped connect our local bar community with the wider international scene.

For us, that’s the real story.
Not one bar competing for a place on a list, but a Sri Lankan hospitality community becoming increasingly visible to the world.
We’re incredibly proud of our team, our village and everyone who has helped us get here.
And we’re even more excited about what Sri Lankan hospitality can do next.

Some nights you celebrate.
Some nights you just lie awake at 3:30 a.m., replaying everything.

Tonight was one of those nights.

Boilermaker is #57 in The World’s 50 Best Bars 51–100, 2026.
The highest debut in the 2026 extended list.

I don’t think any of us walked into this wanting to prove a point. We just wanted to build a bar we believed in. A little wild, a little stubborn, deeply rooted in Goa, and full of people who give a shit.

And then, somehow, the world noticed.

For me, the number is special, of course. But what hits harder is everything behind it.

Tonight, I looked around and thought, fuck, we really did this.

To the entire Boilermaker family, our guests, our friends, our suppliers, our village and everyone who has poured a little bit of themselves into this place…

This one is ours.

What a fucking night. ❤️

In the spirit of our 6th anniversary, we took a walk down memory lane… aka Man Hing Lane. 🥹

In-between the good, the bad, the crazy, there’s everything that’s raw, beautiful and fun, that makes the tavern feel it’s everyone’s home. We’ve been through a lot and it’s been one helluva ride, but we’d do it all again.

Catch you at the Tonks, Thursday 8th Oct from 5pm until late to celebrate. Doors open from 5pm with free food (until stocks last), six guest shifts B2B starting from 6pm, there will be live DJ sets and SO much more.

Hiriketiya - easily one of the most peaceful and fun places I’ve been to! Slow mornings, beautiful beaches, the sweetest little surf-town energy, and some seriously good food and cocktails.

Some places stay with you long after you leave, and Smoke & Bitters @smoke.bitters in Hiriketiya is definitely one of them.

Created by best friends Don Ranasinghe @don_peachy & Lahiru "Lalla" Perera @lallaperera , this incredible restaurant and bar tucked away in the lush surroundings of Hiriketiya is everything I love about discovering a great food and drink destination — relaxed, unexpected, full of character and completely its own.

The food is all about fire, smoke and big Sri Lankan flavours, with an incredible depth and complexity to the dishes. And the cocktails are just as exciting — inventive, beautifully balanced and packed with local ingredients, spices, bitters and tropical flavours.

It’s no surprise that Smoke & Bitters has become one of Sri Lanka’s most celebrated bars — in 2026 it was ranked No. 29 in Asia’s 50 Best Bars, named The Best Bar in Sri Lanka, and received the Michter’s Art of Hospitality Award.
