I love my bro @donbuster2 to life! Before there was Myron the president this was a long term relationship that covered me in the Illinois area. I met @bishophud3 through Buster’s connection! My bro Buster has had my back for years. I’m so glad he is serving on my team in the greatest church in the world! Thanks Buster✊🏾! -Dr. Myron L. Williams #myronwilliamsflow #cogic #imdpresident

Some voices stay with you for a lifetime.

When I think about Chicago gospel music, @emoniwilkins is one of those voices that immediately comes to mind. Growing up on Chicago’s West Side and singing at New Miracle Temple, she and her family had a sound that was truly special. My father used to videotape services there, and I can remember hearing that incredible family blend that seemed to fill the entire room. Those moments helped shape my love and appreciation for gospel music.

As the years went on, I watched Emoni make her mark with New Direction. “Lighthouse” was one of those songs that grabbed you from the very first note. I knew every lyric. Then came songs like “Fully Committed,” which only deepened my appreciation for her gift. Her tone, phrasing, delivery, and vocal texture have always been uniquely her own.

What makes this even more special for me is that in 1999, through the relationship my father had with Derek Williams and the church, Emoni and members of her family sang background vocals on an EP I recorded as a 16-year-old. On the congregational song “What a Mighty God We Serve,” Emoni sang the ad-libs. That’s a memory I’ve carried with me all these years.

Listening to her sing “Optimistic” in this Choir Room @dwanhill clip brought back so many memories. The moment I heard her voice, I was transported right back to those days. Some singers don’t just sing songs—they become part of the soundtrack of your life.

Congratulations on your continued success, Emoni. Thank you for sharing your gift with the world and for inspiring so many of us through the years. Much love, respect, and appreciation always. 🙌🏽❤️

And hearing her today also made me think about Donald “Buster” Woods and so many others who helped shape such a rich era of Chicago gospel music.

What an Honor it was for just a small portion of the International Music Department of the Church Of God In Christ to serve at Pilgrim Assemblies Mid-West Region with Presiding Bishop J. Drew Sheard last night. I was Godly proud of how a grand total of 225 voices of the COGIC Illinois Jurisdictions came together in just 2 weeks. It’s an Honor to serve🙏🏽. **NEXT STOPS TEMPLE, TX, DALLAS, TX. BALTIMORE, MD. On the road to AIM2026! ~Dr. Myron L. Williams #myronwilliamsflow #cogic #imdpresident #chicago #bishopjdrewsheard
