✨ OFF THE RECORD Artist Spotlight: Donna Stack Cliver for Alpenglow Lounge 💿🌲 This striking entry takes the vinyl itself and turns it into a mountain landscape featuring Idyllwild’s iconic Tahquitz Peak — the record’s black surface carved away to reveal a bold silhouette of pines and peaks, while honoring the records form with a shimmering golden Alpenglow Lounge record label. It feels especially fitting for a piece connected to Alpenglow, whose name refers to the rosy light seen on mountain peaks at sunrise or sunset, and whose Idyllwild lounge leans into analog pleasures like wine, conversation, books, and records spinning on the turntable. The artist, Donna Stack Cliver, is a Los Angeles-area visual artist and art director with an MFA in Studio Art. Her background includes sculpture, installation, spatial art, and extensive work creating environments and props for film and television — experience that makes the transformation of a familiar object into a dimensional, graphic landscape feel particularly apt. Artist: Donna Stack Cliver Presented by: Alpenglow Lounge Price: $250 See this piece and the entire OFF THE RECORD exhibition at The Funky Bazaar, or explore available works online at funkybazaarofficial.com — link in bio. #OffTheRecordIdyllwild #MadeInIdyllwild #DonnaStackCliver #AlpenglowLounge #IdyllwildArt #VinylArt #MixedMediaArt #SupportLocalArtists #IdyllwildCalifornia #TheFunkyBazaar #ArtForSale

Donna Stack Cliver’s piece “Backbone” feels very apropos at the moment. Its delicate handmade construction and beautiful crystals capture the light; while also demonstrating the flexible structure required to withstand the weight of life. On view in “Three-Hour Window” curated by Bekka Koontz at Lucky Gallery opening this Saturday, August 29 from 6 pm - 10 pm. Please enjoy the artist statement for “Backbone,” to learn its origin and SoCal significance. “I created my first lace vertebra around 12 years ago. I was drawn to this vision of a spinal column that was not made of bone, but of delicate lace. Porous. Delicate. Fragile. The seed for that idea, however, was planted years earlier because for as long as I can remember, I’ve always had back pain. It began in high school when I took gymnastics and tumbled as a cheerleader. Backhand spring after backhand spring compressing the disks in my back. It worsened when I found myself the head of a university sculpture department and felt the need to “prove myself” by lifting and repairing metal and wood shop equipment on my own. Finally, that pain culminated into a herniated disk the first year I moved to California. And through it all, life continued. You find a way to get up and work through the discomfort. You tend to your family. You maintain the household chores. You show up to work every day. You celebrate your friend’s accomplishments. You give comfort to another. Your edges frayed? You keep going. You’re mentally and physically fatigued? You keep doing. You keep persisting and all the while that low or sharp pain becomes your constant companion until you forget what it was like to not have some sort of ache and it becomes synonymous to living. Backbone was developed through a feminine lens, investigating the nuances of courage and fortitude alongside enervation and malaise. It celebrates and lays bare the mental, emotional, and physical tenacity of the human condition, in particular the female human condition.” - Artist Statement, Donna Stack Cliver @donnagram 📍@luckycatlabs

Some may assume I’m the last to be in touch with his emotions, but I am, at the erratically beating heart of my core, a sentimentalist, and 2026 has had me every bit the live wire since I received the news from Jeff Tremaine this past January that jackass was coming back—albeit for one last time. (“Oh, sure,” you say, and understandably so, but no, this really is the last time.) We all got together in February for what would be one intensive week of shooting and the culmination of 26 “official” years (I always backtrack a tad to tack on the preliminary 8 years of Big Brother mag when The Family of functional dysfunctionals first started to coalesce under Tremaine’s leadership), and by the final hours of the last night all the feelings started to hit me with the weight of an ACME brand anvil. Leaving the set I could barely whisper my thanks to Johnny Knoxville, Spike Jonze, and Tremaine for what has truly been the experience of a lifetime. So, on the night of the premiere this past week on the Paramount lot in Hollywood, I wasn’t sure which way my emotions were gonna go, but it was all absorbed with a broad grin of happiness, bittersweet though it may be, that we’d pulled off the caper of all time. As friends, we found a loophole in reality and went on to traverse a chaotic cartoon landscape of absurdities in the pursuit of laughter that went, I think, well beyond any of our wildest dreams. Jackass: Best and Last encapsulates that journey, from the harebrained, bumbling origins to the explosive conclusion that literally rocked Southern California, and I’m eternally grateful for being part of this rogue wave that has at long last broke and left its high water mark behind, if I may so brazenly and loosely bastardize the famous passage by Hunter S. Thompson. All literary spit shines aside, thank you to everyone who was there from the beginning, those we met along the way (some of whom we have unfortunately since lost), and everyone else who supported and kept the wave a’crest, but especially so to the main cast of genuine characters who physically laid everything on the line to leave those indelible marks for the laughs and gasps of generations to come. Woohoo!

Do it, even if it scares you, or maybe especially if it scares you. Certainly got to step out of my comfort zone for this gun class with @jttactical 🔫😮‍💨 was I shaking and nervous all morning before shooting a real gun for the first time? Yes. Did I borderline have a panic attack and hyperventilate after I shot my first 10 rounds? Absolutely. Did I hit the target with all 10 bullets? I guess so. Was I oh-so-terrified I thought I was gonna die, but decided to go again anyways and continued the whole class and every round until the end? Yup. What did I learn again? Face those damn fears. Get out of that comfort zone. And honestly, I’d do it all over. Had a great International Women’s Day with other badass ladies who were all scared of guns, but showed up anyways 🔥 Swipe to the end to see an amazing speech by the overly talented @mileycyrus 💫 all photos and videos by the most supportive man of all @drew_props 🖤 p.s. besides facing my fears, I took this class mostly for career/acting skill purposes. #faceyourfears #doitscared #guntraining #shootingrange #badasswomen

If you’ve know me long enough, you know my motto is #doscaryshit and today was a big one. It wasn’t planned for Woman’s day, but it was a happy coincidence that when I decided to pull a group of ladies together for a beginners firearms class it landed on this day. I am and always will be an advocate for strict gun laws and I wish we lived in a world that wasn’t as weird as it is, but I also think knowledge is power, and it’s important to just know what scary things are and how they work so they aren’t so scary and we can make better choices. It was fun, and scary. Shaky hands and sometimes tears, and I’m so glad we went. Shout out to @jttactical and @beautyandthebeasttactical for facilitating a really knowledgeable, fun and empowering experience. If anyone wants to go with next time, let me know and I’ll add you to the group.
