Throwback to this thoughtful and bright kitchen reno with @the.visionary.co. We turned a condo kitchen into a spacious, usable space flooded with natural light. Little details in the stone and floor kept a white kitchen warm and feeling fresh- clean finishing was a must on this build.

The hardest design decisions are often the ones that leave the least visible trace.⁠

It's easy to fill a room. It's far more difficult to know when to stop.⁠
⁠
In a bedroom, every element should earn its place. The colour palette should quiet the mind. The materials should invite touch. The proportions should feel balanced. And the details should support one another rather than compete for attention.⁠

A room designed for rest shouldn't ask for your attention. It should gently encourage you to slow down.⁠

That's often the difference between a room that's simply beautiful and one that truly feels like home.⁠

In this space, the contrast is doing the work. The irregularity of the stone wall brings depth and movement, while the vertical wood slats introduce rhythm and structure. Against that, the upholstery stays quiet, soft, tonal, and grounding and the light fixture introduces a soft and organic element.⁠
⁠
It’s a balance we think about often: how to create visual interest without relying on excess. When the materials are right, the space feels effortless.⁠

Today is officially Raised Bed Revolution’s 10-year anniversary!!! Writing this book was SO fun, but also one of the hardest things I’ve done professionally. I loved figuring out the projects and flow, and found that my magazine background helped to organize me and direct the writing. I got to hire @donnagriffith, a magazine photographer I admired. I hired the talented Scott McKinnon (@urbanreclaimedfurniture) as a builder who brought some of the projects to life. I called on friends and colleagues for images and expert tips. My whole family was involved—we shot at my parents’ place, as well as my sister and brother-in-law’s. And of course @augerrhythms was my calm in the chaos, helping source materials and figuring out creative decisions. When the book came out in spring 2016, the support I received was overwhelming, from garden writer friends and magazine colleagues who wrote about or excerpted the book, to friends showing me their copies they had purchased. It also led to some cool opportunities, like being a part of a gardening program on WNED, Buffalo’s PBS station. The pinch me moment happened one evening when Rich and I were driving home through Westdale (my university neighbourhood) and saw my book in the window of Bryan Prince Bookseller (now King West Books). The book has had multiple reprints, with over 47,000 copies sold and it was translated into French and German. It’s hard for me to toot my own horn, as they say, but I’m really proud of this book and grateful for saying yes to the opportunity (even though it aged me by about 100 years).

We’re often asked if we work outside Toronto and the answer is “of course we do!”

This was an extensive renovation in Ottawa that we designed from top to bottom in collaboration with Ardington and Associates.
We left no stone unturned when it came to detailing and selection of materials. It’s the perfect marriage of modern and classic and a total stunner. It’s such a joy to show off this house tour! 😘

Turned this outdoor space into a cozy and inviting climate controlled gym and lounge. Featuring natural stone walls, heated floors, a separate HRV unit, LED accent lighting and integrated rubber gym floors, this build was really fun to see come to life and make this residence feel so much larger. #theraumproject

Honey-gold original hardwood flooring and antique cabinetry take centre stage in our Project Kenilworth I dining room. ⁠

A full-home renovation allowed us the opportunity to tailor each space to our clients’ unique needs and make the house more authentic to them. We embraced unique pieces, swapping the original built-in cabinetry for a beautiful vintage hutch. ⁠
