👻🎙️ Yesterday, artists came out to our Liberation Open Mic to share their working-class horror stories through music and poetry. We were honored to feature award-winning poet @donney_rose as our featured performer, and to invite him back to the New Orleans Liberation Center for a writers workshop series starting in November.

Across the globe, art and culture are central to every working-class movement. Artists have a unique role to move people’s hearts and minds towards the fight for a socialist future. Join us on the second Sunday of November to build your writing skills!

“Growing up, Ms. Pat’s perception of the “American Dream” was similar to most – the imagery of the big house, the nuclear family and the white picket fence.

But as a Black girl growing up in Atlanta, she eventually realized the dream she was socialized to adopt was not necessarily her own.

“I truly believe Black people’s American Dream is not the same as other people’s American Dream,” she said. “Then I had to realize, what was my American Dream? Am I chasing this materialistic stuff that society says I should get?”

We recently had the pleasure of being in conversation with the hilarious and super authentic @comediennemspat about her memoir “Ms. American Dream” that came out earlier this week.

Head over to Observations In Blackness on Substack (observeblack.substack.com) to read and listen to the conversation around her inspiring rise to success, and her true definition of what success really means!

“For weeks leading up to NABJ, I’ve watched Christine, from a distance, oscillate from being a clear-eyed fierce advocate for justice for Nolan to barely being able to hold herself up while speaking about her baby, and Elmore speak about Nolan’s football aspirations and scholastic achievements while desperately trying to keep his composure while praising his son in past tense.
It is one thing to grieve with these parents through the disconnected lens of sound bites and social media clips. It is something far more humanizing to be in the room as their forehead wrinkles and their lips quiver” - @donney_rose
